Hahahaha! It worked! Basically, I was seeing if you could hide stuff that you were drawing by drawing black on the top layer, then hiding that layer and drawing on the bottom layer, as I guessed, the animation applet doesn't record layers being hidden. :)

You should set the speed to slower to see it properly, I didn't have the patience to make it smoother.
