Anyone tried out this drawing program, ArtRage? I'm curious on your guys' takes on it as I'm always look at alternative ways to draw digitally. I'll post my personal comments on it after I hear some of yours.

i have it...its pretty basic, as you probably know.
i suppose if i put some effort in, it could produce something worthwhile, but im lazy. and hooked on lascaux ;P kinda reminds me of some of the features in corel painter. for instance...the paintbrush tool has texture and actually runs out of paint on one continuous stroke. but i find that annoying so far. i'll play with it more soon. maybe. |

I tried it. It's fascinating from a technical point of view, but I never liked oils. I think I need to be really inspired, in the need to try, before I can really say if I like it or not. Also, it's a new tool so until I get a firm grip on all of its characteristics and such I can't be fair.

I am addicted to it, I love it, i have an artrage album in my gallery on iampurpleelephant.com although i think they could improve by allowing custom brushes and get rid of all the smeary-ness

I'd like it much better if it had a watercolor option.

I personally think it sucks, heh. way too limiting. More like a glorified finger painting program. Or toy.

Just tried it. Seems pretty neat. I like the textured feel to it... very realistic.
Kasha (Aug 20, 2004)
well... I guess I like finger painting. Made something for my lil brother with it. Heheh.. it's cool... I'll never have to buy oils again!

Nice piece Kasha, reminds me of Jeff Soto's work http://www.jeffsoto.com/
Jeff Soto is a good example of an illustrator who has made his way into the fine art world. |

Very big! .. I may have to try this Well, I downloaded it.. but when I tried it, I couldnt get it to make a single mark on the canvas... so.. I uninstalled it...
LovelyLori (Aug 21, 2004)
awww.... you didn't give it a chance... I wonder what happened... I thought it was great, so much like sitting in front of a real canvas using real paint.... only thing I don't get, is what is the "drying" time.. I mean, it'll blend any colors you want together, but what if ya do a BG, and then wanna do something totally different on top of it? ya just have to keep cakin' on the colors or what? ???idiot??? yup, me
Kasha (Aug 21, 2004)
haha, yeah Clox.. my lil brother likes Jeff Soto and I was inspired and made it all girly like thoug without the dildos and stuff. lol
LovelyLori (Aug 21, 2004)
Kasha! you would know what I mean.... do ya get what I was tryin' to ask about ArtRage?
Kasha (Aug 21, 2004)
ohh yeah, I know what you mean. I don't think there is a way to let some parts dry....you just got to keep caking it on.
LovelyLori (Aug 21, 2004)
oh well then phhbbt... forget about it... haha thanks
Xodiak (Aug 22, 2004)
Xod has not tried the program yet, but according to the faq <:) ArtRage was written with the Goblin cross platform toolkit. Something made by a goblin can only be good for Xod. >:)
