I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, but I've browsed this forum back a fair few pages and not found it so I'll ask.
Is it possible to organise an offline version of Lascaux Sketch? I really enjoy using it and I've used some of the pic's I've drawn to include in a game I'm making. It's very useful for even drawing sprites and the like, especially as it saves in .png format. If not, I hope you don't mind me using it to create temporary hidden work for backgrounds and such because I find it much easier to use for this sort of thing than anything else. I mean, I would donate or pay for this sort of thing if it helped. |

Hmm thanks for askin' this question, Jim. I'd like to know the same thing. I would like to be able to draw on an offline version of Lascaux too. I've mentioned this to people and they say "Why don't you just draw on Photoshop". My simple answer is.. I don't like Photoshop. It's complicated especially trying to find certain things and tools. With Lascaux, everything is right in front of me and easy to use. I love it. I'm addicted to it. :O

exactly Anna, that's how I feel... I told Marcello he could be loaded if he created a Lascaux cd... he said, "who would buy it"? I would!

Unfortunately, it'd be a friggen pain in the ass to do. And I'm extremely lazy.
I personally don't have huge gripes with drawing stuff hidden here, though it may be annoying for you. As for donating, that's up to you, every bit helps, but it's a donation after all, so it's up to you to decide. My main feeling is there are too many problems and glitches in Lascaux at the moment to consider selling it. I would much rather work on a new program that was built from the group up for offline (and online) use. |

Ahh...well. Thanks anyway.
I thought it was merely a case of compiling it differently but then again, I don't know much about applets. If all goes well with this I may muster up some dosh anyways. Are you currently updating Lascaux or making something else or just busy? |

well the only thing I can say for sure right now is that I am not updating Lascaux. I do not even want to make any promises on it being updated.
For those of you interested in a possible future of Lascaux Sketch, I highly suggest reading this thread I posted on a programming forum. Not that I expect most of you to follow it. Lascaux Sketch could arguably be used offline in a rather odd way. What would have to be done is to write a mini web server that essentially acts like 2draw. You would still have to use your browser, but you would be able to load and save as much as you want. Of course, you would have a few problems here and there... Although that is an idea. It would take some work, but it is possible. Would anyone be interested in such a project? It would be quite a ghetto workaround, which is why I wouldn't recommend it. Essentially you would be running a small web server on your computer (that theoretically anyone could connect to unless you have a firewall or it has some kind of security checking), you would open up a special url (http://localhost:whatever/) in your browser, it would probably have a list of all the images you've saved to load from, or the options to make a new image, then it would load the applet in the web browser, just like 2draw. Of course it would not work like a regular drawing program. You wouldn't have file menu and save and stuff, and you'd have to go back and forth, you would still have all the same Lascaux bugs, and I probably won't fix them. No way to resize or crop canvas, still. It would be faster (but only for loading and saving), wouldn't require and internet connection, and a bit more convenient than 2draw. Yea, it's doable. It is even an interesting challenge. But at this point, it does not make much economic/business sense to put time into such a project. It does not help 2draw, it does not even help Lascaux, and for various reasons, I cannot sell it, it would have to be released for free (not that I have a problem with that). The only idea I would suggest, if there are indeed enough people interested in such a thing is some kind of fund raiser. Raise up so much money then I can look at it as a commissioned project. But that's up to you guys. |

Awww reading that thread made me so sad and wishing that I was a programmer to help you. :*(

It doesn't have enough glitches or problems to warrant not using it... Just sell it to us!!!! We will buy it!!!! I don't want to download anything that makes more strange things happen to my computer. I just want the Lascaux. I hate everything else. The King must give the people what they want!!!!

I seem to recall using some code in it that prevents me from selling it. The png loader/saver probably. Plus selling it means I have to support it, which I don't really want to do. If it's free people can't complain that it doesn't work. ;-) Well, they can, but I don't have to care.
I'm gonna spill a rumor here and say that I may quite possibly be working on a new drawing program that will answer all these problems. |

I wouldn't complain if it didn't work perfectly. I just want it!!! Is the new one almost exactly like it? Will we be able to buy it? You are preventing yourself from being a rich little f****** by not selling your creation!!!
