i've been listening to a lot of underground hip-hop artists such as: Mr. Lif, Aesop Rock, Akrobatik, Cannibal Ox, RJD2, Micranots, Mic Head, Push Objects Buttons.... it gave me the idea to draw him.

I'll draw it differently this time. This time I'll draw real undrgrnd rap emcees and djs/b-boys/writers/lyricists to make up the 5 Elements of Hip-Hop.

I don't know which one sucks worse, hip-hop or this drawing?
PolythenePam (edited Jun 14, 2004)
Dude, this isn't very good, in my opinion.

If this is advanced, I'm an elite bastard.
Gigandas (edited Jun 15, 2004)
There, fixed it for ya, Clox.
EverDream (Jun 14, 2004)
Um...not to be rude but...weren't entries being moderated for this board? *ish confused*
Kloxboy (edited Jun 15, 2004)
Yeah, this is probably not Advanced, it's cool though, I would consider this Intermediate at best. Too bad you couldn't just be warned, instead you get blazed with ignorance.

Axil; "I don't like hip hop" < that's all you had to say but instead you tell this person his work and the music he obviously really enjoys sucks? You are fucking lame.

Gigandas: Thanks Gig.

To me, it seems obvious that there is a bashing of sorts here and if I'm the only one who notices, that's fucking sad.

Axil62 (edited Jun 14, 2004)
You're right Cloxboy. I should have said "This drawing doesn't belong in advanced, it's just not very good. I see by your comment that you like Rap and hip-hop. Since were in a sharring mood I'd just like to mention that I don't like hip-hop, to me it's a good symbol of how our standards for what is considered good or even acceptable art (music or otherwise) is in the toilet. So actually this quality of artwork and it's relationship to hip-hop are a perfect representation of each other, two peas in a pod. I say it stays right here as a shinning example, a beacon to all that was once substandard trash but is now considered good quality craftsmanship."

Whew, thanks for being so diplomatic with me Clox, because after all, like you said, bashing is just fucking sad.

Oh shoot, I forgot on other little thing.

Cloxboy, I don't like the French, I'm glad were at war because I hope they end up drafting you. That way you can play real fight games instead of making up imaginary friends and having them fight. Hey, we should collab sometime! HA!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Jun 14, 2004)
I noticed. I learned today that the number one graduation gift from parents to their high school senior daughters in the Dallas/Ft Worth and surrounding metroplex area is breast augmentation. Yeah, something is wrong with our society. If you have daughters tell them they are beautiful just as they are, that beauty comes from the inside and teach them to respect themselves.

I don't care for rap and hip hop, but just as I don't care for abstract art it doesn't mean it isn't a legitimate form of art because I don't like it. I will still respect others' rights to enjoy things I don't like. All of this has nothing to do with this drawing, except that I think we have a tendency to be rude to each other here to an extent that we would not if we were dealing with each other in person.
Axil62 (Jun 14, 2004)
Don't count on it.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jun 14, 2004)
Well, you are probably an exception to that rule. I bet you're a brutally honest but rude sob everywhere you go. :)
Axil62 (Jun 14, 2004)
What "rule" is that?
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jun 14, 2004)
The one I'm not supposed to count on.
Axil62 (Jun 14, 2004)
You expressed an opinion (which by the way is something that is apparently frowned upon around here)
" I think we have a tendency to be rude to each other here to an extent that we would not if we were dealing with each other in person."
There is no rule.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jun 14, 2004)
You are correct. I should have said *the exception to the generalization I made*. And I can't see ppl frowning around here...unless they do it like this :(
Axil62 (Jun 14, 2004)
It's an expression blah blah blah so on and so forth.
Kloxboy (Jun 14, 2004)
Hehehe, that reaction is not surprising. I like many types of music, including some rap, some hip hop, a lot of rock, some techno, some folk, a lot of classical, as well a few other types.

Bashing a type of music as large and diverse as hip hop or rap, that is pure IGNORANCE! You know why I know? Because I was just like you once, I disliked rap music when I was in my early teens, I was blind and musically narrow minded like you appear to be. We're talking 1,000's upon 1,000's of artists, a culture in it's own and you dismiss it just because " you don't get it" or "can't relate" or perhaps you just hate urban culture as a whole? I dunno.

"...to me it's a good symbol of how our standards for what is considered good or even acceptable art (music or otherwise) is in the toilet."

Our standards? our? hmmmm, to me it sounds like you mean, your standards. Who is the general "our", who do you speak of? Humans? Americans? Hip hop would have evolved faster and had a longer history if certain "our standards" thinking not taken over the fucking world. I think "our standards" are more like "our boundaries" or "our limitations" or most likely "our ignorance".
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Jun 14, 2004)
I still can't believe that many parents are ignorant enough to buy their daughters breast implants for high school graduation gifts.

Oh yeah, I know "frowned upon" is an expression, just the same as when someone says *exception to the rule* or *as a general rule*, or *the rule of thumb* are all expressions, with no actual rule referenced. That was my point.
Axil62 (Jun 14, 2004)
Our standards, we us, a group, a society. Thats who "our" is. We (in general) as a people, have lower standards than we once had. What is considered talent today (by us in general, our society, humans that inhabit the earth) would have been laughable 25 years ago. Our schools for example lower standards because of all the bleeding heart crap about not wanting to damage some stupid little shit's feelings.

According to today's regulators
and bureaucrats, those of us
who were kids in the 40's,
50's, 60's, or even maybe
the early 70's probably
shouldn't have survived.

We had no childproof lids
on medicine bottles, doors
or cabinets, ... and when we
rode our bikes, we had no helmets.
(Not to mention the risks
we took hitchhiking.)

As children, we would ride
in cars with no seatbelts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pickup
truck on a warm day was
always a special treat.

We drank water from the
garden hose and not from a bottle.
Horrors!

We ate cupcakes, bread and
butter, and drank soda pop
with sugar in it, but we were
never overweight because
we were always outside playing.

We shared one soft drink
with four friends, from one
bottle, and no one actually
died from this.

We would spend hours building
our go-carts out of scraps
and then rode down the hill,
only to find out we forgot
the brakes.

After running into the bushes
a few times, we learned to
solve the problem.

We would leave home in the
morning and play all day,
as long as we were back
when the street lights came on.

Our friends' parents could
discipline us without fear and
we respected them. We were actually
afraid they might tell our parents
what we were up to!

No one was able to reach us all day.

NO CELL PHONES!!!!!

Unthinkable!

We did not have Playstations,
Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no
video games at all, no 99
channels on cable, video
tape movies, surround
sound, personal cell phones,
personal computers, or Internet
chat rooms.

We had friends!
We went outside and found them.

We played dodge ball, and
sometimes, the ball would really hurt.

We fell out of trees, got
cut and broke bones and
teeth, and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.

They were accidents.
No one was to blame but us.

Remember accidents?

We had fights and punched
each other and got black
and blue and learned to get over it.

We made up games with
sticks and tennis balls and
ate worms, and although we
were told it would happen,
we did not put out very many
eyes, nor did the worms
live inside us forever.

We rode bikes or walked to
a friend's home and knocked
on the door, or rang the
bell or just walked in and
talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and
not everyone made the team.

Those who didn't had to
learn to deal with disappointment.

Some students weren't as
smart as others, some weren't as

hard working as others, so they

failed a grade and were
held back to repeat the same grade.
Horrors!

Tests were not adjusted for any reason.
Our actions were our own.
Consequences were expected.

The idea of a parent bailing
us out if we broke a law
was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law.

Imagine that!

This generation has produced
some of the best risk-takers
and problem solvers and inventors, ever.

The past 50 years have
been an explosion of innovation

and new
ideas.

We had freedom, failure,
success and responsibility,
and we learned how to deal
with it all.

And you're one of them!

Congratulations!

Pass this on to others
who have had the joy to grow
up as kids, before lawyers
and government regulated our
lives "for our own good."
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Jun 14, 2004)
I totally agree with all of that, except I drank water out the tank, out of the rice canal, the cow trough, as well as the water hose. We didn't have street lights, maybe that's why my Mom didn't notice so soon after dark we weren't home yet.

edit: AND, lots of us drove the truck to school with a loaded shotgun in a rack totally visible, it was perfectly acceptable, and no one thought twice about whether we were going to shoot each other, because we just didn't.
Kloxboy (Jun 14, 2004)
Just wait DBA, someday physical modifications will be so common place. They'll have some blood test done to make sure the 15 year old girl's chest has peaked and determine if she's still pubescent, than she just needs a note from her parents giving her the go ahead.

Cosmetic surgery is almost no bigger a deal than make up in some areas of the country. Make up is just there to make you look better, right? why not just make it more permanent, especially when you get old. I'm pretty sure I won't live long enough to see that totally evolve, plastic people, everywhere. People buy with plastic, they're made of plastic, so I'm sure people will start eating it eventually.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jun 14, 2004)
I know lots of women that had it done (some I tried to talk out of it) and now they are SICK, and some of them deformed, and wish they had never done it. As a matter of fact, I only know one that hasn't had serious problems because of it. Parents are gifting their children with that? But hey, I don't think so... I think it'll go back to survival of the fittest (I hope). People without enough common sense to know better will just do stupid stuff and die from it, so... maybe good riddance.
Axil62 (Jun 14, 2004)
Yeah, screw it. Whatever, just lay down an accept it all. Who cares anyway, it's just the way it is, oh well, doesn't directly affect me right now anyway. Nothing we can do about it. Even if we could we'd better not, it might offend some small group some where.

Hey what's on TV? Pass the Doritos. Oooh cool, is that the new videop game where you buy and sell dope and kill people? Right on let's play! Where's the remote? Batteries dead? Oh well, I'm I'm just gonna streach out and sleep then.
emmamommalag (edited Jun 14, 2004)
We drank water from a pipe that came straight of the rocks on the hill. Somebody decided to put a streetlight on the corner in our neighborhood once, but one of the boys took care of that with a pellet gun. My friends and I all cut the palms of our hands, then shook each others to become "blood brothers and sisters." We didnt' have to worry about blood-borne diseases. You're probably already eating more plastic than you realize, Clox. I do like this picture... good job on the clothing, especially.
Kloxboy (Jun 14, 2004)
Axil, I lived most of my childhood in a small bumfuck nowhere town called Galesville, Wisconsin. I spent most of my time helping my uncles and grandpa on the farm. I was raised by a Green Beret who was very close to his traditional values and had never seen a real city till I was 12. I don't own a cell phone, I think bottled water is the greatest marketing scam ever. I didn't wear a helmet when I rode my bike. Cable was something my friends had, as well remotes. Until I was 15 I had used an older TV with knobs that click when you change the channel. I bet some of my childhood memories were not so different than yours so don't pin that "golden age" crap on me, hehehe.
PolythenePam (Jun 14, 2004)
I'm a child of the 90's and I still drink water out of a hose. I ate sheep shit once too, and I have cow dung fights with my cousins on their farm. The 90's aren't ALL bad in NZ.
davincipoppalag (Jun 15, 2004)
Um...backwhen we built the pyramids we had NO cranes and we had to walk to school 45 miles across burning sand with no shoes. I hate Brussels sprouts... I like this picture too... My apologies to poor Graffiti for having this pic the site of the latest 2draw Conflagration....
method3 (Jun 15, 2004)
Seriously, I wish you guys would have moved the conversation to a forum thread or something. About the picture itself, no it's not Advanced, it got moved as soon as a moderator could get around to it. I think it is intermediate though at least, the biggest problem for me with the piece are the aliased lines. This would look like really awesome vector art if the transitions between the colors and the outlines were smooth. Otherwise, good job, I like the content.
Knockoff (edited Jun 15, 2004)
I agree with Method, this is a bunch of random talking.

I had to laugh at what polythenepam said. (though actually it was really lame)
Oh, and yeah, I think we should all listen to DBA. ;)
Childlike_Vampire (Jun 15, 2004)
WOW too much to read, I got bored with the jibber jabbering... :P

About the pichur...I don't think it looks bad at all, but it looks unfinished for certe. It looks a bit like a magazine ad, but I think shading and cleaner lineart (especially on the face and hand, the detailed bits, lol) would make it look damn spiffy. ^_^
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jun 15, 2004)
Alot of bottled water here is just recycled Houston sewage. Read the labels on crap before you buy it.
kejoco (Jun 15, 2004)
the funny thing about axil's long ass post is that they are the generation that grew up and changed all the things they seem to love and get nostalgic about. Aren't they also the generation that developed pong? you guys are the reason kids are fat.....and often ugly(poor ugly fat kids)

won't somebody please think of the kids!?!?!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jun 15, 2004)
We aren't the reason kids are fat, hon. I'm not the slightest bit overweight and neither are my children. Every generation has access to twinkies, so that's kind of a stupid comment. Your generation doesn't want to accept responsibility for their own actions.
kejoco (Jun 15, 2004)
sorry, its was kind of supposed to be a "stupid comment".
and it isn't my generation that is fat...i'm more of an in between generation.
although everyone is kind of fat now, doesn't really matter on the generation...can't wait to see "super-size me".
i apologize for the fact that these messages have nothing to do with the picture...but i do like it
xwindflyer (edited Jun 15, 2004)
Hmm, davincipapalaq made a reference to being old, and didn't get busted for it, hmmm. :x
Graffiti871 (Jun 15, 2004)
WELL IS EVERYONE DONE HATING IT?
#1 I KNOW IT DOESN'T BELONG IN THE INTERMEDIATE OR ADVANCED.. BUT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T LIKE RAP .. IT DOESN'T MATTER TO ME & #2 I'M GLAD WITH THE WAY IT CAME OUT.

AND #3 -- FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW ME, THIS ISN'T THE WAY THAT I REALLY DRAW.

FINALLY WHAT ARE ALL OF THESE MESSAGES DOING HERE SOME DO NOT EVEN BELONG HERE!
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO KINDA GAVE GOOD CRITISISM.

davincipoppalag (Jun 16, 2004)
Yea Graffiti... apologies again.. I did like this...
Aubrey (Jun 16, 2004)
I think if the lines were a bit wider they'd come out a lot smoother than the super thin, but in general I think it's a good picture Graffiti.
pulkidamnesiac (Jun 18, 2004)
I LIKE ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deformed (Jul 24, 2004)
Why can't we all just get along? Maybe because Axil is logged on? Last I knew, 2draw was a nice place to draw, share good idieas, make new freinds and comment on drawings. What happened to this place? You all fight like frekin two-year-olds! Just comment or critique the damn picture!! Don't bicker over a shit loada crap like twinkies, Different generations and fat, ugly kids!! My god...... Why you guys fight about gay nonsence is beyond me. Oh and Nice job Graffiti.
brainspiller83 (Aug 13, 2004)
i personally think this picture is pretty good. I like the style too, yeah its not everyones tea n biscuits but who cares? We're all different people who are bound to like different things but it doesn't make the things they don't like completely rubbish. Yeah, maybe it needs improvement but nothings perfect. I'm sure we all need to improve on something in our artwork. I just don't see what all this "back in my day" or other stuff thats been mentioned actually gives this image any good feedback that helps graffiti871 become better at what he does. Being rude certainly doesn't. If this is truely the community that it says it is then people would critically analyse the image or any image for what it is and the improvements it needs instead of insulting the person for what they've drawn. As for the music side, you can't truely say that you hate a genre because each genre of music has hundreds and maybe thousands of artists that you've not heard even the unsigned bands. I didn't used to like punk, now i'm a big fan of it all because i actually spent time listening to it, reading on what it means and all that other stuff. Yeah there are some punk musicians that i don't like, but to say the whole genre is a talentless waste of time is well closed-minded and ignorant thing to believe in my books.

anyways, theres my rant.

ps, i didn't read all the posts, or the ones on the other message board yet...but from reading the stuff i have, i'm not too impressed. but who cares???
