If you're having problems with Java, get a new Mac. And use the new Safari, it works well with the applets. BTW, neat drawing!

Well there are two parts here, the applets themselves (written in Java by different people), of which I wrote Lascaux Sketch after being fairly dissatisfied with paintbbs and oekakibbs (this was back in the stone age before shi-painter), then the site that you browse (written in PHP, Perl, or some other server-side scripting language. In this case, 2draw was written in PHP by myself).
If you want to make a website where people can draw online, most likely you won't be writing your own java drawing applet. That took me almost half a year. To make a basic site you can either work with an existing one (such as php-based oekakipoteto, or some of the standard perl systems). The original 2draw was scratched together in a few weeks, and before that I made an even simpler site for an art class in a few days....
Then again, it's not entirely clear what you are trying to do. Are you trying to make a website where people can draw online? If so, is it important that you make it, or just have it? Because you can look into setting up one of the pre-packaged systems. Or bug me to get 2draw.net hosted boards working and pay to host one through 2draw with the 2draw interface and whatnot...
