I think the term has historical American roots from the old Negro spirituals during and following the American Civil War and grew from that throughout the southern part of the US. I love it. ...doesn't necessarily have to be sad, most is, I guess..but it is from the gut...hence the mood also, got the blues. Whine, whine, whine..guitars and people. ;)

It's funny because the herons were I live are blue, (colour, not sad) though they seem to be by themselves all the time so who knows? Sometimes while walking along the shore or fishing in a lonely bay they'll take flight from the tall reeds. Always a special sight to see! I like how you played with the water and reflections in this with a hint of setting sunlight. Nice job, Suntan!

To me it is more a calming color, the color of freedom. you know, the sky's blue, and so is the sea..
