firecracker (Feb 9, 2010)
This reminds me of a crow that used to live in our neighborhood when I was a kid......she wasn't afraid of people, and would land on our porch railing.....her name was 'Loretta'.....that's what everyone called her. She must've been domesticated at one time because her tongue was split, and she could talk. She actually would say some words....I can't remember what words she used to say, but everyone liked that crow......then one day she just disappeared, and no one ever saw her again. There were 'stories' going around as to what happened to her.....but nobody really knows for certain......but we all really missed seeing her flying around our neighborhood. I never heard of a bird called a jackdaw.....but this draw really looks like a crow......maybe they are similar to jackdaws. Anyways......this is a really good draw....I like it.....:)

I just love this, it is so well done and imaginative.

firecracker - jackdaws are the smallest species of the ones in the crow family. they are really cute :3
Oh that thing about the crow reminded me. When i was small we had a parrot named Niko and one summer when my dad was taking it out for a walk, this big crow started to harass it and so it flew to a nearby tree to hide from the crow. And after a while Niko flew to another tree as the crow continued its screaming at it... And flying from tree to tree our Niko disappeared... :(
The crow was probably just got spooked by a such an odd looking bird... But still, stupid crow :(

enjoydotcom - hehe thanks, but you do know that i used reference for this? :P

Really pretty..
enjoydotcom (Feb 9, 2010)
I thought you might have used a reference for it. With imaginative I mean the way you drew the bird. You gave it your own twist (I think)

enjoydotcom - ah. okay, but i think it just comes naturally for me cause i tend to try to simplify the forms when i paint. I'm not really interested in doing photo realistic stuff, but instead something along the style of Frank Frazetta :)
TumblingUpwards (Feb 9, 2010)
I like when someone can create a drawing that is more relaxed and paintery styled, photo realism is stiff and not always considered art but thievery. I wish I could draw or paint like this, maybe in time or as I practice, we'll see. This is really beautiful, keep up with 'your' style!
vlad.the.hamster (Feb 9, 2010)
I love the more painterly styles, too, just that photorealism is easier. :p
But I'm loving all your stuff so far. They're awesome.
mursku (edited Feb 9, 2010)
i wouldn't say photo realism is easier, its just that to paint in a photo realistic style you need to use photo reference more often. When drawing from a photo reference, the guy who paints in a simplified style needs to think how the forms look in real life. On the other hand the guy who paints photo realistic stuff, doesn't need to understand how things look in real life. He just needs to be able to copy what he sees. But a skilled artist that has a bit more simplified style will be able to be much faster than the photo realistic artist.

Also the thing about photo realistic artists doing stiff art, isn't exactly true. It's just that i think the artist that has a better understanding of how the forms he is painting would look like in 3D, will be able to push his characters in a more dynamic poses, than the artist who only knows how things look from a limited number of angles.

Well, it's just that I know more people that can copy a photo exactly and can't draw/paint anything without one, but I get what you're saying.
