The rider is a Csiko - his mount a Nonius stallion. The horsemen and horses are native to Hungary and have a rich and interesting history. Thank you both for the comments... and Sun, I do think the view is what attracted my attention. I hope I can do justice to the finish. Merry Christmas! :)

Looks great so far......I don't know why, but this pic makes me think of the movie "Sleepy Hollow".....maybe it's the black horse.....the rider has his head, so I know it's not the "headless horseman".....lol. Anyways....I like the draw so far....hope to see you finish it! :)

You must be around riders and horses,good movement;and the sky accenting is very effective.

Thanks to all for the comments so far... I draw encouragement from your support, and I feel I will need it to finish this one. DBE - unfortunately, I do not have a horse or the time to spend with people who are fortunate to own, ride, show these beautiful creatures, but I do love rendering them. This is my path of choice as far as my traditional art is concerned, and with each completed work, I am fortunate to be able to see and do more to bring the spirit and beauty of the horse to life.
