The Author of the book is a sweet, 91 yr old Southern Gentleman. He writes a fictional tale about a lonely old man who's lost everything and everyone in his life except for one granddaughter and her husband, who have housed him away in a home for Seniors.
The old man escapes his ''prison'' and walks the few miles to his childhood home, "Glencarren Plantation" set in Civil War time. Along his way, he replays memories of growing up and joining the army to fight the Southern battle.

Oh wow, elly..what an undertaking this was and an outstanding result! WTG. The Spanish moss makes me homesick. :) x

Elly, this is awesome...sounds like a great book, too! One minor thing, if I'm going to be honest..the branches of the tree seem unreal compared to the rest of it...especially the upper left corner. More texture, maybe? The house and the foliage of the tree are amazing!

I agree.....this is really a beautiful draw......I love that house. It really does look like one of those old southern plantation houses. I bet the book would be interesting to read. Awesome draw!! :)

Thank you, kindly y'all! =) I agree with you, Miss DJ, about the difference in the branches/leafs. That's what I get when I decide to draw very late into the night! If this had been the final illustration for the book cover, trust me, I would not have left it this way! We're in the process of feeling out some ideas for the cover so there are likely going to be more 'plantations' on the way in the near future. GOOD FOR YOU in being honest and giving me your opinion about what you observe in my piece! It's welcome for sure! Hugs! =)

Amazing drawing elly!! I love all the little details in this and I just sit here staring at that beautiful house.
I do agree with donna about that left limb. I just think it starts tapering too suddenly and the foliage at the very left corner would look better with a speck more green at the very top. Other than those few small things I think its just absolute perfecto! :D

edit: guess I typed too long and you posted before I could see it .. sorry

That's an awesome house to grow up in for sure. Sad about him being kept up in a senior living facility, but I'm glad he gets to retrace his life on his walk back.

Elly, you are a woman of grace to take constructive comments the way they're intended! I applaud you for being that kind of person. Anyway, you know I love ya, so I'm happy you appreciate my honesty.

Isn't that the way we should be, Miss DJ? Thank you =) Hugs
Miss_DJ (Jun 22, 2009)
Yes, we should be, but, sigh...too often some sure are not... hugs back!

I think this is going to be the book cover after all....added a LOT more detail to it and changed a few things about the house. We see is the author approves this version...
