Killer whale/ Orca closest relative of the orca is the bottle nosed porpoise yes PORPOISE NOT DOLPHIN a Dolphin is actually a large game fish related to marlin & sail fish
some debate as to weather the killer wale is actually a small toothed wale or a giant porpoise

I heard on National Geographic channel that the "orca" is not a whale.....it is called the "killer" whale, because it kills whales......I saw a film clip of a "pod" of "orca's", attacking a sperm whale and her calf. They were trying to kill the calf.....the mother whale was frantic.....the attack lasted for a long time, but in the end, the mother whale was able to escape with her calf....."thank goodness for that. I do like the "orcas".....I think they are beautiful......but it was really disheartening to see a whole "pod" of them attacking this whale and her baby calf.

yeah :(

in other news, i made this amazing steak for dinner. was delicious!

Killer yes because it kills but whale may be a misnomer the exact classification as to being whale or porpoise is still out there as I understand it. I've never herd the name referred to as Killer of whales but rather the "whale" that kills. Only some pods actual kill whales it's a learned behavior from other pod members.
(sry -_-() I was really really into Ocean science when I was younger....Still am I suppose)

I think it's great that you are still "into" ocean science......that sounds like such a fascinating and interesting subject to be studying. You should be a "marine biologist".......I wish I was....."lol"!! Everything about the ocean fascinates me......I love the sea, and all the things that live in it. I think you did a great job on this "orca" draw. :)

Really beautiful...
Sleepyhead (May 6, 2009)
Beautiful, love the beams but i also loved the former background (that made the picture so quite and peaceful as if it was on the bottom of a shallow warm ocean).
Btw what is it that you added on the left, it looks like a reflection, as if it's an orca in a basin now.
The_Chosen (May 6, 2009)
It's another orca behind him the pec fin and part of his side showing you are seeing his back so it appears all black
Sleepyhead (May 6, 2009)
Oh, yes I see it now. :)
