I've been drawing on these little guys all afternoon...watching the snow fall...beautiful!
Flubbles (edited Mar 1, 2009)
Great job, the fish is my favourite part! ive got this same ref pic saved to draw , along with many others ill probobly not get to do.I think i even sent this ref pic in a bunch of others for roytje to look at, for one of our collabs.
elly (Mar 1, 2009)
Y'all should give it a try! I actually added the distant part of the branch that's not in the ref. Looks ok in the photo but in the drawing...something was missing....thanks!! =)
davincipoppalag (Mar 1, 2009)
I've seen that photo..great job on it elly!
elly (Mar 1, 2009)
Bummer, I was hopin' nobody's seen this one.....LOL, ya right...thanks dave!
Flubbles (Mar 1, 2009)
I just remembered i never sent roytje the ref because he had already drawn the photo before lol i sent him one simular though i think. I think if you had drawn this more central you wouldn't of needed to add the phantom branch, i uderstand why you did though as a perspective point of view... there was too much open space.
gel_o (Mar 1, 2009)
This is amazing elly, most stunning! I especially love the blue feathers and how they seem to glow!
elly (Mar 1, 2009)
Yep! You're right, Flubbles, there was too much open space and I wanted to bring the eye back to 'central'. I'd love to see someone else draw this too one day...thanks for your input Flubbles!
And thank you as well, gel. He does have somewhat of an iridescence to him, but for me, it was dinner that caught my eye.... =)
firecracker (Mar 1, 2009)

QTgillie (Mar 1, 2009)
Elly, I love this, it is fabulous. I have done many many birds in my past, I love birds. This king fisher is a proud fisherman.
elly (Mar 1, 2009)
Thank y'all, fire, Ms DJ, & QT =)
vlad.the.hamster (Mar 1, 2009)
Man, that's amazing! Such a perfect shot.
elly (Mar 2, 2009)
Thanks, vlad! Ya, I wonder how long the photographer had to wait to get this shot....or....was he or she at the right place at the right time.....
Moosh (Mar 2, 2009)
That's great. The little fish looks terrified. Haha. :D
marcello (Mar 2, 2009)
I'm open to the possibility of it being a contrived (read: photoshopped) photograph. it's harder to tell when it's a drawing of a photo.
Flubbles (Mar 2, 2009)
In the orignal photograph the fish has a more placid look, somebody has definetly took it to photoshop to alter its expression.
QTgillie (Mar 3, 2009)
the expression on the captured fish is what makes this pic!
enjoydotcom (Mar 3, 2009)
Very cool drawing, you did well on it.
KuteDymples (Mar 3, 2009)
Really incredible, I love those blue iridescent feathers too. Even the drops of water are perfect. Dinner looks tasty as well.
Pantera (Mar 5, 2009)
Oh my, I just love this drawing, the look on the fishys face just makes me laugh, great job on all of it :)
bette_davis_eyes (Mar 7, 2009)
this is absolutely perfect! wow what a great draw elly :D
montezmaria (Apr 4, 2009)
Love this! My fav is that fish in the birds mouth. I had to smile from the expression the fish is making. Poor thing, but it is nature taking place.
Aubrey (Jun 13, 2009)
That poor fish looked too cool right before it was swallowed by that just as cool bird.
