well this is better than I would do at minerals... they are so hard, even just to photograph them is difficult... glad ya tried, it was worth it ;)
emmamommalag (Apr 17, 2004)
Emerald men, dixie.. they can't help but make those jokes and amethyst an old lady so agate quite a kick outta them. I think this was a great idea, xwindflyer.. good job on all of it but that hammer handle is really great.. looks like real woodgrain. And that quartz at the top is really cool, too.
dixielandcutie (Apr 17, 2004)
hahah, omg...*giggle* ya'll are great.
xwindflyer (Apr 17, 2004)
Thank you all. Yes minerals are hard to do. I think it'll be quite a while before I try it again. LOL at emmamommalog's pun. that's funny. Wood is easier than gems.

Tuukke (Apr 16, 2004)
awww nice.. this is awesome but i'll now still criticise a bit :) sry.. that 'building' thingy above her is a bit weird.. i mean that on the front it is much more down that on the back, but still the top is just a line.. i think it should rise a bit also? hopefully u understand my not-so-good english :) good pic
emmamommalag (Apr 16, 2004)
I love the colorfulness. Not sure I see what Tuukke means about the back and front lines.
xwindflyer (Apr 17, 2004)
This is very pretty. I think what Tuukke is trying to say, is: the trellis that the figure is sitting under, on the side nearest the viewer the lines are not parallel, and the top is a straight line from the front side to the rear. The perspective is a little off. I do like the picture though, the mood of the scene is dipicted well.
dixielandcutie (Apr 17, 2004)
oh wow...i love the colors...and yea, the trellice thingy is a little off...but i dont think it really detracts from the picture as a whole. great work!

staci (Apr 18, 2004)
wow lor..good job..the shadows on the flower make itlook realistic and the bird as always ...i just wish the bg had more something....gradient color..a horizon? dunno
LovelyLori (edited Aug 4, 2004)
ya me too, kinda... all of these bird books we have, the backgrounds are very unfocused, most of them anyway... of course, they want to focus mainly on the birds... but... doesn't make life easy for copycats such as myself... hehe
RavioloiTheDancingClown (Apr 18, 2004)
i was dissapointedd when i saw it was a bird and not a...... ..hummer

I combined them both. What do you think of the results?
dixielandcutie (Apr 16, 2004)
hehe i think it's nifty ;p hard to see at first tho because of the angle i had my screen...but i love it
Consequential_Biopsy (Apr 16, 2004)
Heh, on my laptop screen if i look at it from very slightly above it looks completely white, blank. moving my head down though exposes all the colours..wonderful!
davincipoppalag (Apr 16, 2004)
Its awfully light on my screen so I can't really see all the details but it looks like that's working for you. Sometimes with clouds, less is more..I tend to get carried away once I get rolling on them

I can't seem to locate an "airbrush feature". Where is it located?
davincipoppalag (Apr 16, 2004)
I believe (with my faulty memory, it's the last brush choice on the brush pallette..has soft looking edges
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Apr 16, 2004)
On the left side of the box where you change your brush size is a line of brush types... square, etc, it's the bottom one, I think... It's really fuzzy looking. On the bottom left corner of the screen when you put your mouse/stylus over the feature it should tell you when you are on it.
xwindflyer (Apr 16, 2004)
OK. Thanks, I didn't realise that was the airbrush. I thought it was just a Fuzzy round brush. lol

from National Audubon Society(North American Birds) front cover pic
I don't know what to do the background, that is always a major prob for me... I'd like to make some hint of foliage, blurred .... but damned if I know the best technique for that...and I should've done it in the beginning!

I love your boidie. The butt crack, on the other hand, well, let's just say...I now can't get it out of my mind...lol.
Gigandas (Apr 16, 2004)
It's finished XD.I really like the bird's features^^.Something about the wings makes it look incomplete though.....it could be that there's too much of a solid area on its wings and it clashes with the detailed texture of its body. But the body itself is really well done. The night sky goes well with it too.Another awesome piece :)...
craptastic_spaztic (Apr 16, 2004)
WOW! Much impressed. Big thumbs up.
