I love this. I love your fantasy art Panda, worthy of posters and book covers. He's cute (to me) may I have him? Or at least give him a treat.
pandabarrie (Jun 22, 2006)
oh he would love a treat :)
im thinking of making this guy an actual charater, so you may see more of him sometime
HunterKiller_ (Jun 22, 2006)
It's like a tiger crossed with a dragon. Very good.

Step 1: On layer 0, use a light colour, such as light blue, to make your preliminary lineart. It's easiest just to make broad geometric shapes in the same shape as your subject. This makes it easier when you go to "ink" your lineart, and ensures it will be proportionate (that is, if you DREW it proportionate!). Skipping this stage could cause your lineart to look disfigured, unless you've practiced enough to skip it.

Step 2: Next, go to layer 2. Use the pen or pencil tool (or whatever else you prefer) to make your lineart. Its good practice to experiment with different colours of lineart, but black is usually a safe bet. You can now erase the preliminary blue on layer 0. Tips: If your lineart looks too dark or intense, use the erase rectangle tool on low intensity and shave off a layer of it. It will make the lineart look finer and light, and when you go to colour the lineart wont look as separate from the colouring.

Step 3: On any layer lower than your black lineart, fill it in with colour! (but PLEASE dont use the "fill" tool. Not only will not work on a lower layer, but it looks ugly when people use it and it never goes to the edge of your lineart.)

Step 4: This step is just shading and detail. I'd go further into how to shade, but this isn't a shading tutorial! I just have 1 tip: Avoid shading dark areas with straight black. Shadows aren't black, they're merely darker tones of the same colour. However, if it's your "style" to shade with black, by all means go ahead.

You deserve a cookie. (.':)
pandabarrie (Jun 23, 2006)
looks familiar :)
this turned out nicely, good job!
sephiroth54321 (Jul 29, 2006)
But really, the shadow would be black wouldn't it? Only it is a bit transparent which is why it appears a darker shade of the same color...i dunno
cianteed2 (Aug 4, 2006)
actually theres no such thing as a black shadow. a shadow is just a lack of light, thus the subject's colour wouldnt turn black in a shadow - it would just be a darker version of its original colour.

Very cool. Nice vision/creativity you have. I wish you would do more of this nature.
HunterKiller_ (Jun 26, 2006)
This is brilliant. I feel that the electricity doesn't look as intense or dynamic as it could be.
sincity (Jul 31, 2006)
this is awesome. The pose and colors are wonderful. :}

Hopefully it'll turn out decent. It's a picture of Between and her mother before she gained her strange appendage. (As always, harsh critique would rock. I'll take anything as long as it's not just wailing on my art. I'm not angry if it's got even the slightest bit of info on what to change but what really gets me is "It sucks" -_- because I'm a new artist and I know it sucks, that's why I want you amazing artists out there to tell me what I could do to..unsuck =3! Because lord knows I envy all of you here.)

actually, sweetcell, i think the neck is fine, the head just seems a bit far over...

oh!
-shoulder blades should probably be a bit higher up...
-hind legs...i mean the shin bones should be shorter
-the baby's head is too big.
the fore legs make the mom look a bit like a mongoose...o.o *tilts head*
keikai (edited Jun 21, 2006)
Sorry I've been so dead lately Sweetcell. I've been really busy lately, but hopefully I'll be compensating for my lack of art with a ton of new, better art.

Thank you both for the awesome critique ^^! I'll make sure to keep it in mind for next time. And actually now that I look back at it, the neck does remind me of a mashmallow xD oh well, better luck next time. The legs on the front doo look mongooseish...not a word but whatever. Between's (the baby's) head was probably my least favorite thing in the picture so that's something I'll fix next time. Anyways, I hope make good use of the wonderful critique you gave me! Thank once again! -hugs pandabarrie and Sweetcell-

Almost has an Aeon Fluxish look. A dynamic face :)
Sweetcell (Jun 20, 2006)
Very futeristic, I love it. I'd clean up the lines but that's just me.

Have you attempted any guys? I know how difficult drawing the male figure is opposed to the female but I'd like to see your version.

Hm. Good idea. Whoa. My keyboard's all screwed up.

Women are like apples on trees

The best ones are at the top of the tree.
Most men don't want to reach for the good
ones because they are afraid of falling and
getting hurt. Instead, they sometimes take
the apples from the ground that aren't as
good, but easy.
The apples at the top think something is
wrong with them, when in reality, they're
amazing.
They just have to wait for the right man
to come along, the one who is brave
enough to climb all the way to the top of
the tree.

Very nice picture and poem. It's so true
Sweetcell (Jun 20, 2006)
Soooo all the ladies at 2draw are at the top of the tree? I'm in good company then. X)

The spattering and thought bubble is good, and the picture's so cute.
pandabarrie (Jun 20, 2006)
maybe im not at the top...maybe on a reachable branch...ive had some bad relationships so maybe its because people think im easy?
hmm *pictures an apple trying to climb up a tree*
Miss_DJ (Oct 18, 2006)
cute and true....just keep growin, and shinin'...you're a sweet apple in your own right..you don't need anyone to pluck you for that to be true. But, if someone does end up climbing that tree...insist that he take you right out for a nice piece of pie ala mode to celebrate real love. smiles, Dj

Let's go home, get stoned.... what tool is this?
davincipoppalag (Jun 19, 2006)
I think it't the lower slider under the halftone slider...and you flood fill.....that's how I've done this kind of look.
Excel_Ichigo (Jun 20, 2006)
): I like the pretty colors.
Sweetcell (Jun 20, 2006)
I thnk I know how he did this. Slider tool all the way to the right and the pen or airbrush tool at it's smallest and opacity and flow nearly full. Am I right? (probably way off.)
