Bouguereau's Virgin and Lamb
MrPaul
(Dec 1, 2006)
My study of the master painter William Bouguereau's La Vierge à L'agneau (1903) (Translation: Virgin and Lamb.) Ref: http://cosmos.phpwebhosting.com/~tribes/paul/La_Vierge_a_Lagneau.jpgC&C Welcomed! :)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Dec 16, 2006)
I was really torn between this one and Moosh's Armor painting... This one truly captures what the meaning of the painting is... and I'm not really sure even the original artist did that... you definitely did. I smell baby powder, and I think this would make a great decal on a nursery chest-of-drawers. :)

Is this the right board? So, what made you start drawing, and what made you keep at it? (there's probably already been a thread on this...) Well, let's see...as for me, I originally started somewhere around first grade. What did I draw? Animals. Why? I got some book called "Draw Rainforest Animals" or something, and used that. I didn't draw much back then though. Then, a couple of years later, I became re-obsessed with Sailormoon (I had watched it when I was much much younger, waaay before...

I decided to start the collaboration! A different artist draws on each of the 30 64x64 pixels squares.

– latest 4:I used PaintBBS because it is the simplest and easiest applet for small sized drawings. I hope it does not cause many problems! If someone does not understand something about the program I can explain. Also it is recommended that every artist finishes the picture in a single version. If you need to cancel a revision, please do not forget to click "Cancel Revision" to make sure the picture is not unintentionally locked. Original forum thread: link You can see a list of the artists added in my profile comment here: link Now the list is full of 30 users! |XOD|

This is Starry night from, one of my favorite artists, Vincent Van Gogh. http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/gogh/starry-night/gogh.starry-night.jpgFinished :)
Roytje (Dec 10, 2006)
Yes, I wanted to revise it another time, but I hadn't enough space (for the second time :()But thank you!
Cordelia_Pink (Mar 4, 2008)
dude, how could this not make it to the Showcase?? haven't seen one of these styles in a very, very long time! you did an excellent job, I knew instantly that it was Van Gogh. I like your take on this too because you didn't try to make it look exactly like it, and there's a blur in parts of it that makes it look softer compared to the orig. that has all the intricate details, which seem quite intense and sharp. But you still did great.
Roytje (Apr 4, 2008)
Thank you! Such a comment means a lot to me :)

Very nice Roytje! I too have this print in living room. Thought about recreating it, but man, so tedious. |

Imagine there's no heaven,It's easy if you try, No hell below us, Above us only sky, Imagine all the people living for today... Imagine there's no countries, It isnt hard to do, Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too, Imagine all the people living life in peace... Imagine no possesions, I wonder if you can, No need for greed or hunger, A brotherhood of man, Imagine all the people Sharing all the world... You may say Im a dreamer, but Im not the only one, I hope some day you'll join us, And the world will live as one. John Winston Lennon

This is one of my favorites of yours. There is so much in it. Great job!
thug (Jun 5, 2005)
you rock Cindy! This is just beautiful. My favorite part is the background. Even if the benches were not a part of this piece, I would like this with only the out of focus city scape that is the background with all the reflected light and shadows. I feel like I have lived this scene.
StrawberryPaintbrush (Jun 5, 2005)
*stares on awe* wow, you're one of my favorite artists on this site. Everything you do is so amazing! (is that a little too obsessive souding?)

Oooo. I love the way you've mixed the desaturated tones of the hat and her skin with the supersaturated colours of her lips, her kimono and the background. The hat is *ahem* well, dammit, amazing. Love the tension in the chin strap/skin and the way you've just managed to hide her eyes from the viewer...so we're always trying to peer up under the edge of the hat. Critiques? Hmmm. That gorgeous bouncelight underneath her chin makes me wish there was a tiny bit of shine on the skin of her cheek. But's that nitpicking. I love this.
comd (Mar 19, 2006)
It's insane how much subtle texture is in the skin here. I can't begin to imagine how to do this with lascaux sketch, and it'd still be incredible regardless of the medium.
