Despite what it may seem like, I am not personally a heavy advocate of rules and censorship, but since this has been brought to my attention as a possible problem, I thought I would get input from the rest of you. This one is rife with symbolism. I read a description of the Latvian goddess Mara, http://www.angelfire.com/al2/LatvianStuff/Earth26waterdeities.html, and decided to to try to depict her. Some of the symbols like the skeleton representing death are obvious, some like the odd number of flowers signifying good tidings or benevolance are not unless you're familiar with Latvian culture. I've never seen any of the Latvian deities drawn, but this is how I imagined one would look.

drawing II project 1 (just turned in today, woot!) chalk pastel, 2 x 30x44" stonehenge [the project was basically take two items from still life, compose however ya like, then find a photo for the third piece and copy it]
