Wow! This is a really great draw.....I love how you did all the detail....especially all those little stones.....and I like the colors. I think the mermaid is a little bit chubby, but I guess she is supposed to look that way. Awesome pic! :)
lynnandcharlie (Jan 23, 2010)
I agree with Firecracker, the stones are especially well done. The mermaid looks like a real person which is nice for a change. I really like it
firecracker (Jan 23, 2010)
Yeah.....you're right.....this mermaid does look like a real person.....I'm not used to seeing that. All the mermaid pics that I've ever seen show "mystical fantasy looking" creatures....but this one really does look real....especially her fin....that looks like a real fishtail on her......and her "pouchy" midsection does make her look like a real person.....most women don't have a flat tummy. I also like her hair.....great draw!! :)
dorothyblueeyes (Jan 24, 2010)
you're right,this mermaid is more like a real person.Not idealized,which is great;wonderful landscape,details,too.

Well that sounds great, but were gonna have to wait till the dishes are done and is it alright if I bring along my mother as a chaperone?
Flubbles (Jan 21, 2010)
I'm guessing you both used the same photo reference.
Axil62 (Jan 21, 2010)
I'm almost positive.
Bobstained (Jan 21, 2010)
I like it when people use the same photo reference but approach it in their own style, people should do it more often.

You re invited to steal this picture, copy it,and put it up wherever you like.Pass it on.Sorry the art and caligraphy is so bad.The message is the medium,in this case.I was just discussing on businessweek, and the professor was so puzzled, why American culture is so lousy, deteriorated, and now art, music, education is now kaput in the culture, and in school systems..Big mystery.Answer is:It was sold out.Investigate the Ancient Roman empire, they did exactly the same thing.Materialism, and power, money, stuff, was more greatly prized than anything else.It always eliminates any other values. So,"Girls Gone Wild,"cause it made the company-inventor very rich,is seen as "pillar of the business community,"instead of a lousy pornographer. NOW,if he had done the same thing, and not made any money off it,or been very small time,THEN he would have been called scum. Howev er,since "Girls Gone Wild" make him a zillionaire, the Stock Market salutes him as a successful entrepeneur. WE women,on the other hand, know he is yer basic pimp.Just a very successful one.

Purplemartin (Jan 20, 2010)
The stigma of being poor in America is worse then the actual going without. I get it!
Bubblicious (Jan 20, 2010)
I wonder what happens when you have morals and you are poor... Hmm....
dorothyblueeyes (Jan 21, 2010)
Good question,Bubbilicious;there are poor religious people, who try very hard to hang onto their morals, but what happens a lot,is,that morals are luxury of the middleclass, not the poor.

Remember "My Fair Lady"?Eliza's(the flower girl, who was transformed)dad, who was low class British, never married her mom. Now,when he ended up inheriting money, because he had become middleclass, and "decent",he had to marry her mom, finally. Why?Because once you have money, and are middleclass, respectable, you are forced to have morals.(??)--by society.Poor people do not have to get married, ect.,can drink, like he did,and in general not have a good reputation.Neither, apparentally,do the rich.(Notice how movies stars, celebrities, often do not get married, they just have kids.)

The rich,he sings, can play around as much as they like; But the middleclass, have to be respectable, forced by society to be that way.The very poor, cannot afford morals, they have to do whatever they can,to survive.(very often true.)The rich are too well off, society cannot touch them. But the middleclass are in the crunch;THEY ARE THE ONES,who, when they lose respectibility, get tilted socially, economically, down. They are not rich enough to be loose. But bad morals from them, can economically, socially ruin them. The other 2 classes can do what they like(as pointed out in "My Fair Lady")But Eliza's dad sings mornfully, that since he has money,NOW he's forced to be moral. Ha ha. hope that answers yer question slightly.(Yes,there are moral poor people, but not as often in the modern world. They get temptations, squeezed,no money in tight places, and their young abandon morals at not helping them at all,in the world. )It's not fun,or happy,to be poor in a world of fancy Nike,Adidas sneakers, gold chains, hip purses, status items, and great technology. It may be worse for poor people now, than before.)

"Whaddya mean, those are the DEMOCRATS?"says Medicare,as the stranger kills her,and Medicaid, and the Public Option(I just read, the govt.wants to do away with Medicaid long-term care?and make everyone get private, eventually.)Sorry for badly done art, badly drawn.yow.I hate this program!!I remember I never did like it much, now I know why.I'm spoiled by the others.

Sorry for political tirades, just ignore all this;in our state,Oregon, measures 66 and 67 are being voted on,so that anyone earning $250.a year(and corporations)will be taxed,to hold up the state's services. In a Depression, they want to drive out anyone who's not poor,(that's the upper middleclass)and any business that is still in Oregon.(we have very little industry, and business, cause none of them want to move to another Democrat's govt. and legislature,to be taxed to death, like California was.)We have less and less industry here, less jobs, and more Democrats and Liberal politicians and govt. And more poor people. You wanta see a "welfare state,"that's Oregon!!It's in peril of completely going bankrupt.color us California. Now I know why England went back to the hard-liners.You're completely ok to dissagree with me,we do not get sent to prison for our opinions, and I do not hate you.

Every time I see one of your paintings I get a bad feeling about the country. My current issue is..did Obama really wait four days before rising to this attempted airplane bombing? I kept saying noo, I've been busy, not much tv..must have missed something...looks like I did not. What is his problem?? I hate the fact that I have zero confidence in him. BLaH
Good art, dorothy. Always an entertaining and creative outlet.
dorothyblueeyes (Jan 4, 2010)
Thank you for the compliments.GA sounds ok,I should do that,if i could.Sorry about the bad feeling about the country,I guess it's not in good shape.uh..it's true,Obama waited 4days till rising to this airplane bombing thing?ugh.Did not know that.So he just ignored it?Wierd, makes me feel unsafe, too,I'm not taking airplanes anymore.(thanks for the tip, other person, who told me about "sumo paint".It's incredible.I'm amazed.Really wild website and software.Maybe I will wreak more havoc on that website, also,if they let me,heh heh.)
Purplemartin (Jan 20, 2010)
They are making massive cuts, even backdoor ones, and yes these are supposed to be the Democrats that supposely "help the poor". No both are in the back pocket of insurance companies. This is a great drawing that says it all!

This pic is really awesome.....I love the background, especially the sky. The only thing wrong with this pic is that pink looking thingy....it looks like a fish that has been "gutted", and it's intestines are laying on the ground! "LOL"!! Fantastic draw though!! :D
