I did a doodle of my Chara Hodo in this pose last night...and figured I'd try to oekkai it with a background...

I'm obsessed with Hodo lately. <3

I really stink at Backgrounds...any tips on how to improve on them?

critique always loved.

PS not done, excuse the scribbleness.....I have to go to work in liker....five minutes. D= )

I felt like fleshing out Hodo a little more...I'd rather work slowly on this picture and see how well I can make it come out.

as ever, all critique welcomed. <3

I looove this contest....
Homer Simpson meets Picasso

Picasso had a lot of styles, so I tried to fuse parts of them that I love the most.
These paintings helped me:
[1] [2] [3]

Trying to understand his color schemes, shading, and how he played with shapes was a great experience. ...No matter how good or bad the result is.

I'm hoping for more people to enter this contest.

I might go back and change this later... I tried to make the platypus as realistic as possible, after seeing some of the photograph-like work on this site, and I think it turned out alright. However, I'm largely dissatisfied with the balloons, and might completely redo them sometime.

Exactly, watercolor. Thank you. Before doing these two I had just come from setting up my watercolor table and paints specificly to do this bowl in watercolor, I plan to do it over and over with big bold strokes and clean bright colors, letting them bleed a little here and there...we'll see.
cmb (Jan 7, 2007)
I would like to see that...watercolour sketches can be really fresh and free...
Sweetcell (Jan 7, 2007)
Just amazing and.... you have a do a tutorial Dan, you have to.

my guess is that you are the winner....if not i think you are :)
hideyourface (Jan 5, 2007)
I think you just used too much saturation and shading like on the face is a bit too smooth.
Ashes (Jan 6, 2007)
...Win.

This and the Powerpuffs on the Carousel, both are so good.

But I really like this. <3 Speed was one of my childhood faves.
Miss_DJ (edited Jan 7, 2007)
I'm pretty surprised this didn't get first place. It's definitely an original and creative coupling of Speed Racer and Rembrandt! My hat is off to you.

Ruggi (Jan 6, 2007)
I like the table and the lamps especially... something about the right kind of stripiness I think?
cmb (Jan 7, 2007)
