Just another attempt at drawing an eye. Also tried out this Lascaux sketch program...I'm not sure how to use it on the mac as it requires a right click...If anybody knows how pleases tell me.

Trying out some eye colouring techniques...anybody who's good at these things pleases make suggestions. I tried to draw eyelashes, but they just wouldn't look right, so suggestions on how to do them would be greatly appreciated.

The easiest way to learn, is to use a reference. Keep practising untill you no longer need that reference. I would love to offer colouring advice, but colouring is not my strong point! However in Lascaux, the best way I've found of colouring is using anti alias, the smooth brush, and setting the opacity to around 140-170. Then blurring if neccessary. That's probably completely useless to you though, as you used oekaki for this!

Try putting some subtle shading on the top half of the eye, usually there is a shadow from the eyelashes. Also, perhaps lighten up on the blood vessels... they are symbols or insanity, rage, and extreme emotion. To do eyelashes... I try to do them as some simple dark areas like shadows... then I add just a few details to make them look less indistinct. Anyway... just said all of this 'cause you asked for comments... I'm typically more of a lurker/drawer not given to chit chat.

I was looking through the idea box and came across "a blouse leaving on a bicycle"...which makes a pretty funny picture. Here's what I came up with.

I've tried to finish this three times and my computer always crashes when I go to submit it. I tried on another computer too, and the applet won't load up when I hit revise (but will for a new drawing). This is really frustrating, does anybody know how I can finish this?

Nevermind, I managed to get it to work on my boyfriends laptop.

I managed to get this to work finally on my boyfriends laptop. I bow down to people who have the patience to use a touchpad regularly...it's hard! Somehow it doesn't look as good as it did last time.

Sorry if the colours look funky...I'm not used to laptop screens, and everything looks really different on here.

Haha! I think you did a good job not only with the picture, but illustrating what could be a very abstract event. Nice!
davincipoppalag (Dec 21, 2004)
I agree! I love when people do idea box pictures,, this is great

I don't know...in case anyone is interested, I did find this on it:

in a nutshell

In few words; briefly.

This phrase -- or its Latin equivalent, at least -- appears all the way back in antiquity. The famous Roman orator Cicero is said to have mentioned a parchment copy of The Iliad so tiny that it could literally fit right into a nutshell. (from http://www.funwords.com/library/i.htm ).

An odd phrase, and nobody really seems to know where it came from.
