Poor cardinal, eating frozen berries in winter. They're such beautiful birds. We used to have a pair nesting by our house in Ottawa. The male liked to stand on the peak of the house and tell everybody what a big, tough guy he was.

I generally use references when I'm painting (when it's not an abstract), and I thought I'd try and just use my own imagination and see where it goes.

I love the styleI'm at that point where I've begun to hate it, so I'm calling it finished. I may come back to it and finish the arms, hands, and hair one day.
