ha ha. Yes, Dorothy, Roytje shares this penchant for dark backgrounds with his fellow countryman, another rather famous portrait painter. Hint. His name starts with 'R'. Portland is at the 45th parallel. Amsterdam is at th 52nd.
Suntan (Nov 19, 2013)
wow, what a compliment..comparison of countrymen, @Teapot. Very wonderful, R. ;)

I agree. I've been looking at digital art now for nearly 15 years and yours is the work I most admire. I was just telling a friend about it this morning. She is a painter but has no knowledge of digital painting and I used some of your pictures as an example of how amazing it can be in the hands of a master. You have something so special and I hope you never doubt it.
Roytje (Oct 27, 2013)
Well thank you for those sweet comments :)

i thought this was someone else.

I agree; for some reason, even in my town, which sprouts art galleries and oil painting groups, there's a BIAS against digital fine art. Everyone is so snobby about "it has to be real paint on real canvas, or its not fine art." But very few of the galleries here SELL THE ART. HA HA. Nobody is buying. But Roytie could out do any of the artists around here. Yes, Roytie, you're a pro. :)

Not as cool as the other entries, but it was fun to do. Plus I finally found the use of the Mask function :)>.

Was this from imagination or with references? Regardless it has such an aesthetic feel to it.

Got my finger on the trigger, but I don't know who to trust. When I look into your eyes, there's just devils and dust. Were a long long way from home, Bob. Homes a long long way from us. Feel a dirty wind a blowin, devils and dust. I got God on my side and I'm just trying to survive, but if what you do to survive kills the things you love, fear is a powerful thing, it'll turn your heart black, you can trust. It'll take your God filled soul, fill it with devils and dust. Well I dreamed of you last night in a field of blood and stone... the blood began to dry, the smell began to rise. Well I dreamed of you last night in a field of mud and bones and the blood began to dry and the snow began to rise, we've got God on our side and were just trying to survive. But if what you do to survive kills the things you love, fears a powerful thing, it'll turn your heart black, you can trust. It'll take your God filled soul and fill it with devils and dust. Now every woman and every man they won't take a righteous stand, find the love that God wills and the faith that he commands. I've got my finger on the trigger, tonight faith just ain't enough. When I look inside my heart, there's just devils and dust, but I got God on my side and I'm just trying to survive, but if what you do to survive kills the things you love, fears a dangerous thing, it'll turn your heart black you can trust. It'll take your God filled soul, fill it with devils and dust.

Want To Learn
Phoenix1 (Aug 20, 2013)
I have always wanted to learn how to draw, what's the best way to go about it. I've been on meetup and have looked at classes. None of them seem to offer actual instruction. Advice, please?

firecracker (Dec 14, 2013)
This is really beautiful.....the water looks perfect.......looking at this picture kinda gives me the "chills" though....it reminds me of a movie that I saw once....called "Open Water". It's a psychological horror film....about a young American couple who went out with a scuba diving group, and they were left stranded in the middle of the ocean, floating in the water for days....they were never found. (It's a true story). It's very frightening, and I really didn't enjoy watching that movie. Anyways....this is a beautiful pic!!! :)
