mazi (Jul 1, 2004)
just out of curiosity, which artists are most influential to you? personally, Julia Lichty, mooncalfe (ross someone?) and Estrigious come to mind. and of course Salvador Dali (my god whos art is all over my walls), and H.R. Giger are really great too, though i can never hope to be as great as them. and more locally, zappo, hakkai and kasha have all inspired me tons. awesome drawi...

Judges 13

The Birth of Samson

1 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD , so the LORD delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.
2 A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was sterile and remained childless. 3 The angel of the LORD appeared to her and said, "You are sterile and childless, but you are going to conceive and have a son. 4 Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean, 5 because you will conceive and give birth to a son. No razor may be used on his head, because the boy is to be a Nazirite, set apart to God from birth, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines."
6 Then the woman went to her husband and told him, "A man of God came to me. He looked like an angel of God, very awesome. I didn't ask him where he came from, and he didn't tell me his name. 7 But he said to me, 'You will conceive and give birth to a son. Now then, drink no wine or other fermented drink and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a Nazirite of God from birth until the day of his death.' "
8 Then Manoah prayed to the LORD : "O LORD , I beg you, let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born."
9 God heard Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman while she was out in the field; but her husband Manoah was not with her. 10 The woman hurried to tell her husband, "He's here! The man who appeared to me the other day!"
11 Manoah got up and followed his wife. When he came to the man, he said, "Are you the one who talked to my wife?"
"I am," he said.
12 So Manoah asked him, "When your words are fulfilled, what is to be the rule for the boy's life and work?"
13 The angel of the LORD answered, "Your wife must do all that I have told her. 14 She must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, nor drink any wine or other fermented drink nor eat anything unclean. She must do everything I have commanded her."
15 Manoah said to the angel of the LORD , "We would like you to stay until we prepare a young goat for you."
16 The angel of the LORD replied, "Even though you detain me, I will not eat any of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the LORD ." (Manoah did not realize that it was the angel of the LORD .)
17 Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the LORD , "What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes true?"
18 He replied, "Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding. [1] " 19 Then Manoah took a young goat, together with the grain offering, and sacrificed it on a rock to the LORD . And the LORD did an amazing thing while Manoah and his wife watched: 20 As the flame blazed up from the altar toward heaven, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame. Seeing this, Manoah and his wife fell with their faces to the ground. 21 When the angel of the LORD did not show himself again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized that it was the angel of the LORD .
22 "We are doomed to die!" he said to his wife. "We have seen God!"
23 But his wife answered, "If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and grain offering from our hands, nor shown us all these things or now told us this."
24 The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the LORD blessed him, 25 and the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him while he was in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

I know what you mean! I really like how the light in the background brings this figure forward... nice job :)
davincipoppalag (Jul 6, 2004)
I have that problem too. The hands just won't make what the brain imagines. I like the backlighting too, it gives the feel of people sitting in a firelit cave.

great draw...love both versions!

This is wonderful. Your daughter seems very happy! You did a very nice job!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jul 8, 2004)
I wonder if your daughters know how lucky they are to have such a talented father who obviously loves them very much and is able to depict their vibrant beauty.
Axil62 (Jul 8, 2004)
What a wonderful thing to say, thank you very much.

So you have two daughters? And they're both this beautiful? Lucky man.

Edit: Seen your youngest, seen your oldest. But I still don't know how many girls you have. All I know is they're beautiful and probably taking after their mother. I mean because of the very lovely and distinct asian features, not that they couldn't have inherited their good looks fro.. ah forget it.

Yeah looks like the ears need to be larger and more loop shaped? I dunno how to explain it, but also the jaw looks like it's way too small for such a large mouth. Usually horse's mouths go narrower from the head. It's a really nice picture though you've done a great job on it so far.
damnskippytakn-a-break (Jul 8, 2004)
Amazing! I never knew John Travolta did a western! You did good and was just teasing by the way on Travolta, but it does look like John. The horses head is a bit elongated, not fitting with the rest of the picture. If you should make any changes I'd rethink the length of the horses muzzle, and maybe shorten horses bangs. Very nice work. I applaud you.

I think this is really nice too! Just the little bit of touchups... and it's gonna be a fabulous drawing. (I have a soft spot for pictures of cowboys/horses) Please don't delete!
Aubrey (Jul 10, 2004)
Actually I think John Travolta DID do a cowboy film. I can't remember the name of it though.

I think the nostrils are botherin you cause the picture you're drawing from is black and white so they're not the focal point on it cause everything else is the same. When ya make it color with black nostrils it makes them more prevalent. But I think the eyes take away most of that anyhoo, beautiful eyes!
Kloxboy (Jul 7, 2004)
Nice work, have anice trip.
Childlike_Vampire (Jul 7, 2004)
Oh but it's damn spiffy anyways, what a pretty picture. I love the use of canvas space, and the eyes...*sigh* the eyes are beautiful. As I'm sure you are as well, since it is a picture of you! Nice pichur. :D

A simple concept masterfully executed. You are 2draw's mistress of fire. I agree with Dave; even with drawing talent aside, the diversity you maintain at your (amazing) level of productivity is inspiring.
Rosemary (Jul 5, 2004)
wow wonderful draw!
Cordelia_Pink (Jul 11, 2004)
*sings* "I touch the fire and it freezes me.. I look into it and it's black... why can't I feel? my skin should crack and peal... I want the fire back!" *touches it* OUCH! wrong! lol wow, awesome. It looks like it's going to burn a part of this page! "Walk through the fire... and let it burn!" This is wonderful, Deadly, even though it's just a matchstick. =)

@!*@%^#$%#! Lascaux! This was really a hands study, http://www.reinhardschmid.de/myhands/photos/hands35_2g_s.jpg. The background was just because I've been working on faces and light and dark.

Wow...the hands are so realistic...and I love that ring. Fabulous job, Gigge...wow. :]
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jun 29, 2004)
Very nice hands, and good distribution of light and shadows. Love how the ring and the irises match.
JackSprat (Jul 26, 2004)
All I can say on this one, is Wow! The details on wrinkling and texture on the hands is fantastic.

Looks good! Nice happy faces.. are you the one on the right? (nother cutie!)
Zack (Jul 9, 2004)
well the one on the right is presumably not a boy, so it must be her. :P

this is good, and it has an interesting style to it. the background makes it look like they're laying on that stuff you put down before a carpet.
Gigge (Jul 9, 2004)
I love it when people include themselves in their images. So fun to see how people 'recreate' themselves. You two do look very happy. Cute couple.
Aubrey (Jul 10, 2004)
You brought out the happiness in the picture for sure. It's a nice pic to look at if ya need a smile :)
