Abstract Art
Gigandas (edited Aug 7, 2005)
First of all, I'd like to state that in no way, am I intentionally dissing abstract art here if it even sounds like I am. Anyway, I just thought I'd share this with you guys, but yesterday on 20/20, they were showing these abstract paintings being sold for millions of dollars done by these so-called pros. But it got interesting when the host had these random 4 year old girls paint on a canvas and then set their work up next to the 'pro' abstract artists' pieces and see if these educated art...

Your drawing technique makes them look closely related, as if they all belong to some type of fighting squad. I like :)
Cherry (Aug 6, 2005)
The wolf reminds me of the warewolf from cursed, great draw *2 thumbs up*
Kabomb (Aug 6, 2005)
this is feaaantashtic. wtg. (altho I'm against ur opinion 'bout ref's- there's no way I could draw an intermediate standard drawing without one!) :P

The face is very nice indeed, very bold. I really love the snail, your snails are excellent.
plasma_ooganator (Aug 7, 2005)
This made me chuckle. That is really funny. And really good.!
LisaAnne (Aug 7, 2005)
Very interesting style and concept. I could deffinately see this in a magazine or something of that nature.

Talk is cheap. I always enjoy seeing your work around here, Crimson. Bravo!

It's obvious what this is. They are twins who happened to be sitting under a cosmic laundromat, just when the soap bubbles overflowed. This is very imaginative Joe..I love your stuff
Renuar (edited Aug 5, 2005)
I like this, so here's my theory. The white pyramid coming from the bubble is 'comfort foam', which in turn helps to create a 'comfortable silence'. eh!?
well, it made sense to me. good work.

I like the background very well. It made me feel like it was a faraway audience in a big arena. Or maybe a guy standing playing a keyboard or hand drums, or something. But the main subject, wow! It's so pretty, such a great idea!
freefall (edited Aug 5, 2005)
thank you :) it's growing on me too.

ref. used btw. just thought it was too cool to not be reproduced
Renuar (Aug 5, 2005)
Good revision free, looks even better. job well done.

"And I love Hip-Hop like Madonna loves di*k!" -DJ Cam (sample)

Pictorial refrence...umm this took me way too long for what it looks like...I tried a little different technique.
I had alot of problems with it (pointing finger/hand especially), and I'm so very impressed by everyone's skill on here, because I sure suck at drawing on the computer. Anyway have a nice day!

this is definitely well done. always room for improvement, but you did very well. it surely 'feels' perfect
davincipoppalag (Aug 6, 2005)
This is actually quite good. That is a hard body position with difficult perspective and you did it really well.

oo great warm colors. he looks tan. i think, as well, that you did very good for still being new and picking such a complex pose. youre constantly improving.
LisaAnne (Aug 7, 2005)
Thank you for the support. I really do appreciate it...I'm just still frustrated with it, but what the hell practice is practice.

Stumbled across her while doing a search for reference pictures of birds, and figured this would be more fun to do. (Yay, portraiture.) She was the first female Australian aviator.

First Advanced posting, hope it's OK.

Edit: Made it sepia in Photoshop: Link, Take 2

I'm actually proud of this one, yay.

Thanks so much, JK! I had problems getting the relative darkness and shadows correct, as I work from print-outs, and my printer is almost out of black and white ink. The whole pic ended up several shades lighter, with horizontal lines running through the whole thing (eew)! I didn't want to go into too much detail in the clothing, as I wanted to really focus on the face. (That, and I got lazy). I probably should have made the shadows much purer than they actually are.
Hideyourface, I can't really see the angle difference, but that's probably just me being biased and blind because I drew it. Oh, well, too late to fix it now.
Gigge (Aug 5, 2005)
I like this alot. I think it conveys that sense of free-spirit and adventure that she must have had to compel her to fly.
Renuar (Aug 5, 2005)
Much talent. Good draw. I look forward to seeing more.

the color work is mind blowing!!! holy shit! it looks as if someone took a face between two hands and pulled.
LisaAnne (Aug 10, 2005)
I really enjoy how the little hidden face in the lower right corner, and envious color work right along side the title. I'm still new here, but your work is some of my favorite. I appreciate how you have clean lines, yet they still have a very soft look to them. Very expressive, not just in facial position, but color and "brush work". Nice job.
Cordelia_Pink (edited Aug 12, 2005)
That's incredible. The way the colors and the short thin lines can shape a figure such as a face, and can still make you distinguish the eyes, nose, and lips, is just incredible. This is great. Good on ya.
KH44N (Aug 12, 2005)
I agree Cordlia, this is incredible. I love everything about it!
