Wanting deeper shadows, not sure how to use all the tools yet.

This is good, maybe varying the tones/color values between shades by using the opacity (it's a slider tool at the bottom right of the applet) higher numbers are darker, lower are lighter, and then blending. This is a cute cow, I have one named Patty Cow. :)

Thanks DBA..I'll try that. How cool, that you have a cow. Where I live we only have lizards.:) I took a look at your gallery and the Texas Blue Bonnets picture is magnificent.

We have lotsa cows. Usually I name them stuff like T-Bone, Sirloin, (lol). Lizards? Do you live in the desert? Thank you, too. :)

Err... the thumbnail for this looks way awesome even if the properly sized pic looks rather unfinished.I decided to comment because your description has provoked the poet in me to create something, so here it is, for you since you inspired it. ^^ Reaching, stretching, screaming, "I want, I want! So high the sky I cannot reach." Reaching, stretching, I want, I want I want to fly. To reach The starfire so far away, Where dreams are real, And real is not. I want, I want! I AM! Reaching stretching, I can reach them, Just a little further til I have, I have. So cold the sky! I did not know! Just a little farther I can feel the warmth. I must, I must. Oh, no! Too far! I've flown too far! I cant turn back It's pulling me in! It burns, it burns! Drifting down, Far far down. Through the cold, onto the rock, where it began. I lie asleep, Blind and deaf. I want, I want... Oh, to see again! A wonderful thing! But so cold down here, and plain, and dull. I see the gitter, Starfire burning bright! Oh, the sky so high I cannot reach. This is the second piece I have done and it's not exactly how I would like to see it. Trying to use the tools but I get an edgy line instead of a straight line. Any suggestions?

try using the little fuzzy paint brush dots and vary the opacity and flow. By playing around with these you can soften the lines quite a bit :)
