Two identical pictures
Axil62 (Oct 20, 2006)
Two identical pictures READ BEFORE CLICKING ON THE LINK BELOW. There are two identical pictures that will appear on the screen. Almost 8,000 people were tested to see if they could find the 3 differences in the two pictures and only 19 found all 3. See how observant you are. If you find all 3, you're one of very few people who are able to do this.

The skin tones and coloring are fantastic. I enjoy the style a lot. Great work.

I agree with solve plus that I like the detailed structures.

There is a great interplay of textures here. I like this much!
Punky (Mar 16, 2007)
This is so amazing. I would hang it on my wall, if it wasn't for the fact that it would scare me at night.

He looks like he has a really horrendous migraine. D:

Took my time with this one. I think it's ok.
Still can't match the skin tones though.

I'm not a big fan of the blend brush, but I should learn to use the airbrush. Thanks.
What I really need to do is get the skin values right before I think about making anything smooth.
davincipoppalag (Feb 5, 2007)
You need both..this is a good one too HK.. must be a friend of Cindy's
Dr.Snoopy (Feb 6, 2007)
Oooh so fleshy!
Great work so far...

And yeah sometimes it's hard to work with the blend tool...
I'm currently practicing with the air brush, but it's hard to draw sharp edges. Everything has it's pros and cons.

Dr.Snoopy gave me some advice for painting digitally, such as using music for inspiration and other helpful hints, and also asked for a "sexy" picture; so here is one! The music for this one was "Who's Your Daddy" by Benny Benassi, so it's pretty easy to understand where I'm coming from once you've heard it.

CAM<<LOOK>>> There are..mammaries!! ..THis is interesting looking!!! Cool
Altard (Mar 9, 2007)
Yeah, I wanna get real good at drawing the human form; ALL of the human form. I started with faces, as you can see by previous posts. Now I'm working my way down to the rest. I wanna be an elite bastard!!
cmb (Mar 9, 2007)
good attempt at foreshortening, the shoulders look a little narrow, did you use a reference picture? If not- would the feet be visible?
Dr.Snoopy (edited Mar 9, 2007)
I did not request you to do that ... I gave you an example for how you can gain motivation :D
Anyways good drawing.

More hints: You need to work longer on an image if you want to draw realistic ;) This also helps you you to understand the difference better. I mean you will never know how to draw an eye perfect if you stop a full body painting after a few minutes.
Changing the focus is also very helpful. For example make a few drawings where you just focus on posing and movement...so you only draw the rough shapes of the body(maybe also the skeleton). This way you don't have to invest so much time into it, but you learn a lot. (post them in beginners)
Once in a while you should draw something where you combine all of those parts. (you can post these drawings in intermediate or advanced)

I was testing my skills as a painter. Reference from http://www.mediafocusphotos.com/samples/woman.jpg only for the shapes of the facial features and perhaps the expression, in a vague sort of way. Of course I can't draw exact replicas of things, as I am not that skilled.

Yeah it can be frustrating if you seem to get the shapes not right if the only focus is on them.
You say you're not that skilled, but I believe it's all about practice...so the main task for you is to make yourself draw a lot(realistic stuff) and to invest a decent amount time into it.

A good way to do that is to set yourself some interesting goals with your paintings. Such as "Draw him in a way so he looks like a serial killer" ... so that you have some to go crazy with, besides the boring(!) replication process.
Or join a competing where you think "These guys really need to get their asses kicked!" :D
Or just get some inspirational music...it gives you this" I going to create something amazing" feeling.
Or speaking as a man draw some sexy stuff...^^

Just don't make the whole process to a pain in the ass :P
I think you can apply these tips on painting in general. ..practice your skills and on the other side do some experiments.
Seeing your caricatures I guess the creative part is less a problem for you :)

Trust yourself that with a certain amount of time you will be able to get the results you want. ;)

Oh god I'm giving advices although no one requested them -_-
Altard (Mar 8, 2007)
Thank you, Dr. Snoopy. I actually had a particular song whose image from my mind I wanted to re-create. Though this is just the sketch of it for now, until I can completely master the human form. This, you could say, would be the first in a series. I have a lot of free time on my hands, as you can see by the frequency of my posts, so time to practice will not be a problem.
This is kind of silly, but the image I had in mind was Eve (as in Adam and Eve) hearing her first sounds, like all hitting her at once, and the face of bewilderment she might have had.
I guess a lot of my subject matter is fantastical, so a lot of it will be "sexy" because mythical creatures are depicted as such in traditional works. :)
Thank you for the advice, and for taking the time to say all that. :)

Felt it was too blotchy here and there, so I touched it up and made it slightly if at all crisper. I like it better now. I even re-did the background, but using its original colours.

is the fish on drugs? is that what the swirllies are?

This is soooo cool though I want a fish bowl like that that would be sweet
Roytje (Mar 4, 2007)
How did you get the watertool-look of the fish in Lascaux? I can't find that tool in Lascaux..
But this painting is fantastic, very stylish with a nice compostion. :)
Dr.Snoopy (Mar 4, 2007)
@Roytje: You need to activate blending and then lower the flow ;) But it feels different from Shi-Painter.
Just practice a bit and you start to feel comfortable.

It's a cool picture of a fish!
woah_pockster (Mar 5, 2007)
I'm going to slaughter you. you're too good! D:
and I want to hug that fishie ;_;
