How layers work.
- Layers can be thought of as clear sheets of plastic that you draw or paint on. Each layer is independent of the other, and their order can be changed.
- The main use for layers is being able to paint behind something without changing it. This is essential for coloring lineart, but is also useful for seperating the foreground, midground, and background.
- Layers can also be useful for transparency. For example, if your drawing had a ghost in it, you could have the ghost on its own layer and set it to half opacity. (Opacity is the opposite of transparency.) This is also useful for lighting effects.
- Keep in mind, however, that more layers usually means bigger file size.

Adding layers.
In Oekeki-Shi, each drawing starts out with a default of three layers. Usually that is all you need, but if you need to add a layer, click the Menu button in the layers window. Lascaux starts with just one layer. To add layers in Lascaux, simply click the button under the word Edit on the left.

Changing layer order.
After selecting the layer you want to move, drag it in the direction you want to move it.

Hiding/showing layers.
To hide or show a layer in Oekeki-Shi, click on the circle to the right of its name in the layer window. To hide or show a layer in Lascaux, click on the V to the left of its name in the layer list.

This was a good idea. ^^ So many people don't know how to use layers, and it definately helps. Great hand! I wish I could draw hands... TT-TT

Oh wow! I really like this for some reason. I love your shading. The different sizes in lineart makes it look awesome. Nice stuff.

Thanks Aubsykins.. your warning about the book is too late though... it was required reading in jr. high.. way back in the days of yore.

I agree with everyone.
Gigge (Aug 2, 2004)
Yay, more in the geisha series. The colors are very nice and I like the balanced feel of this. Her hair picks sort of point to the open space.

Summer's clear skies are nice, but the sun hurts my eyes. Poor me.
This was just a background for the Monkey Queen, but I ran out of space. Oh, well. I'll draw her some other time.

quintessence (Aug 1, 2004)
...no clue. None. She looks like a Mexican elf who slept with a mafia member and stole his hat.

yeah, you DO have a great style quint, this is good
Harmanye (Aug 1, 2004)
Cor, this is great! The dotty things in the background, the shading. Yeah, the overall style of it is wonderful.

My favorite part is the hair, hands down.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Aug 1, 2004)
I love the colors you used... especially the hair. My kids had a babysitter that dyed her hair with koolaid once (grape I think) and her hair was close to that color. I think she looks like a hip Indian Princess. Like a modern-day Pocahontas.
davincipoppalag (Aug 2, 2004)
This is very nice. She looks like a Peruvian princess

I love dolphins (especially of the bottle-nose variety), and yet I've never drawn one in any oekaki before.
I quite like this.

*pokes timer* Eh ^^;;
Heh... Forgive my impatience.

I'm not sure about the bubbles in the front but.. eh.

P.S.
Main incentive to draw this was a wonderfully done shark in the Showcase.
When I see a 'Shark', I usually think 'Dolphin!'
Weird association, I know....

Hah, n.n Seeing as how copy-paste isn't possible, I guess I must have.
Though it surprised me, to be sure....

Thanks :D

And thank you Grandma... although I doubt you'll be reading this... XD

Wow, I just saw this. Thanx for the credit. I love to draw underwater pictures. This one is beautiful. Dolphins rule!
laurael (Aug 1, 2004)

Well, you may not have much to say, but I do. A friend is a good thing to have. But not a pinkish purple one with a tool belt that goes around stealing road-cones from asphalt paving places on the hot highway and then wears it as a hat while juggling rotten limes on the way home to make Margaritas with them. (He's supposed to wait and put that on after he drinks. Or was that a lampshade? Will you be having drinks with your friend? Yep, a friend is a good thing to have. I like the way his shadow follows him in the picture. That was very skillful of you. :D :D
Gigge (Jul 27, 2004)
This is very playful, Dino. I'd take a friend like that. He'd be amusing if nothing else. Plus he looks like he could fix a few things around the house. :)
DinoFlorist (Jul 27, 2004)
We don't drink. It makes your imagination see weird things. ;)
Aubrey (Aug 1, 2004)
He's cute, sorta looks like a middle-aged carpenter bunny rabbit who's been out on the hot pavement a little too long today lol.
