oh thats neat. cool blurry bg...brings more focus to the dolphin...maybe ya did this on purpose, but if you use layers you can make it flow better b/w the bg and the pic. beautiful job tho, i love it
Look (Feb 9, 2004)
The outline of the dophine is a little blurry, but the lighting and coloring is really good!

Look (Feb 9, 2004)
That's very realistic! especially you make the background all blurry, it bring all the focus to the character in the front. Nice!!!

It looks like an old movie. Awesome! I can't believe you have the patience of drawing it in 9 hours. But it's all worth it
laurael (Jan 31, 2004)
I bet the real paintings you've done are fantastic. I'd buy your paintings any day...love the dark style of them. This would look great in a room with a pool table, old western art...yeah...
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 31, 2004)
Thanks, Laurael. My real ones I think are a bit better than here because I'm so new to doing this on the computer, but I sometimes wish some of them didn't turn out so dark. It's usually not consciously intentional - maybe it's just my mood at the time ;).

Once again, great job.Unlike me, you weren't like "Eh, I drew the main person and I'm too lazy to draw another person in the picture so uh....I'm just gonna leave it the way it is..."^^;.You did a good job of bringing out the main focus, I'm impressed.

only thing I can say is, contrast?
lucy_430 (Jan 30, 2004)

Erm...tried to add more contrast. D: Oh, and thanks for the comments. :)
Axil62 (edited Jan 31, 2004)
You did a great job lucy. Darker darks, careful where you place them (the eye follows them through the pic so try to get the eye to move from upper left down through the pic with them) and distinguish the background by pushing it back a little (things in the distance get less detailed and grayer, in this case probably a tad darker and less focused) The only other thing is the symmetrical face. Faces are not really symmetrical. If you look at a photo of most anyone straight on you can cover half the face with your hand or a piece of paper or whatever, take a good look, then cover take your hand or the piece of paper and move it to the other side of the face and take a good look at the other half of the face. You'll find that the eyes are not identical and the other features are a little different from one half of the face to the other. Of course you might be doing the symmetrical thing on this panting on purpose for an effect, I don't know for sure, I'm not there. Good job.
lucy_430 (Jan 31, 2004)
Hmm...I see. Thanks, I'll be sure to keep all that in mind for furture drawings. :)

Ha! Yes, yes. The contrast between the cartoonish shirt and the realistic face with the outline works really well somehow. Me likey.

I originally did a work similar to this with oil on canvas about 10 years ago. I believe it was while I was studying a book called "How to Paint Roses".

aww, what can I say, it's so beautiful! I like the soft color, and the way the flowers are, it's almost as if they have expressions

The trellis gave me a hard time, I need to learn how to layer.

Think of layers as a stack of window glass or "clear" paper. Each piece in the stack can instantly be made available for painting on by clicking it's corresponding layer representation in the layers box. This way you can paint and erase all you like on one layer without disturbing whatever you have painted on the other layers. You can change the order of the layers by holding the mouse button down on the layer you want to move and dragging it to a lower level. Also you can click on a layer in the layer box and use the little slider tool (looks kind of like a crude volume control thing) under the layer box to make the selected layer more "see through" so that what ever layers are under it show through the painted part in varying degrees depending on how transparent you made that layer. You can also click on the little "v" on a layer in the layer box to make that layer not visible so you can see what the other layers look like without that layer...if you like you can then delete that layer by clicking on it's icon in the layers box and then clicking on the delete button in the layers box. I should also mention that this is all pertaining to the Lascaux Sketch paint program, some of it it may be relevent to other paint programs, I dunno.
