This is so beautiful. Everything looks so soft. :)
JillJJ (Aug 4, 2007)
This is so life like, did you do this from a photo? JillJJ
PS (Aug 4, 2007)
Yes, very nice work, although the bigger bird does look a bit odd (it seems like it should be in the frame a little bit more). But the baby bird is really nice and I like the background.
Qwerty_Wittle_Fawah (Aug 4, 2007)
I am not really a bid fan, but I love this piece she is sooo cute! all puffy like that :-) Are those your birds?

does anyone else click through the versions and ever think "this is probably as good as i could make it, or this is where i'd leave it if i was doing it." it would probably be version 1 on this for me. i really don't have the patience to make things this good :):)

staci did a series of face pics, you might like to compare or something.

SYTHE (Feb 6, 2006)
Next you'll paint Willies right ear, eventually we'll see his whole face. This is great, I love the attention to detail.
Opium (Feb 27, 2006)
ok, seriously, I posted a comment on this one....I like the fuzziness of it :)

Quickie is too similar to her ref. What use is a drawing if it's simply a copy of the truth? A copy of the truth is just that, the truth, and lies are a dozen times more interesting. What the heck does Allen Ginsberg want? Why is America so easy to generalize? Why do we believe everything we see on the television? Can't we think for ourselves anymore? Could we ever. What will become of our computers when the Electricty takes off her clothes I can not think of what I would rather want a toothbrush or a toothpick why do i think so much when i draw and why can't i stop thinking now im okay

I think this is a very effective picture. I tell myself that I copy the truth in order to teach myself to really see something, not just glance at it, make a snap judgement, store it in a vague memory or dismiss it. I love to draw but I do not have a natural facility for noticing visual details and storing them in my 'mind's eye'. Work that is copied or referenced directly from a source is rarely something that will elicit an emotional response from me, though I may admire the technical skill displayed. I want to believe there is a stage or phase in one's development of skill where the urge to 'speak' or express one's feelings or thoughts melds with one's technical abilities and something I think of as Art happens. I'm not there.
Renuar (Jan 23, 2006)
it's a great drawing, with a nice idea behind it.
mx (Jan 23, 2006)
as terracotta mentioned between the technical skill vs. expression....i have a great conflict between the two myself. I want to do the realism as this great pic, yet, i wanna be freed from the technical restrictions. I have not found my style either and its causing a great deal of frustration i must say.
Great technical piece though for the time spent

This is a quickie? Wow, amazing. Very well done, you've captured the alert mood of the bird perfectly.

Nice job. I always felt so sorry for that monster.

Gorgeous! That's a cool effect you did on the left side of his face...looks like it's an old burn wound that's decaying

oooO! oooO! Okay. Now do Leonid Breshnev's eyebrows. Pleeeeeaaaaaasssse? I just hope I live long enough to say to people "I knew her when she used to post her work on the Internet. No. Really. She did. Wait a second. I've still got some in a file here somewhere..."

I like the style in that it feels like brushstrokes are in it. v1 is more overt in that respect.

This is a dwarf crocodile on the hunt. Here's the ref. And even though this isn't exactly like the ref pic, I like it better that way.. I mean, what's art if you just copy an image? Art should be an interpretation of your subject. I'm all for artistic liberties.

Great job! and GREAT study to do! I love these animals, and their eyes are what make them so freakin adorable. Their babies even have those huge eyes and small snouts. This is a way cool idea for scales *makes mental note* Great job and welcome to 2draw
