This is for the contest, let me describe..

The ultimate paradise, is my ultimate dream, a world where cancer can be beaten. My father had cancer and it's so frustrating there's nothing you can do. A lot of people die because of this disease, it's a nightmare and the only paradise for me is a world where hospitals can beat cancer!

(The yellow ambulance is a dutch one, becaus i'm dutch! =D)

lol @ Axil

I'm sorry about your father, Sanne. You actually live in that world.....bazillions of people fight cancer and beat it every day. (several of my immediate family members have done so) It's not always a death sentence, sometimes it's all about attitude. You gotta want to live badly enough to... well, to LIVE, though. There are, however, inoperable, untreatable cases, and if your father's happened to be one of those, you have my deepest sympathy and my prayers.

I'm with Dan in that I'd rather die from pretty much anything than having to be saved by an ambulance that looks like a 1969-1973 reject refrigerator with wheels that came from a junkyard and was spray painted by homeless people who got hold of some really bad weed.

Remember to keep your chin up and keep your sense of humor. Nobody gets out of here alive, either way. :)

edit: I didn't intend for any of that to sound mean, I was actually trying to "impart some hope". I don't know your exact situation, and I do know personally how painful it is. Life would not be nearly so precious or joyful if it didn't come with the pain and the cost of living it. I think sometimes cancer brings itself upon us as a gift so that we have time to say "goodbye"... that's necessary for some people. Don't be afraid. (Your ambulance is cute... that along with Dan's "brashness" made me laugh and I needed that. :)

They send ambulances to cancer victims because of complications, everyone knows.

I actually like the idea of this one. It's a serious subject, but it's drawn in a comical way. There's something almost ethereal about the idea of a physical thing like a vehicle smashing not into cancer but into the concept of cancer.

No, it's pretty stupid.

Contest Week 60: Paradise
Shanghai (edited Sep 15, 2007)
Contest Week 60: Paradise *11ish day contest. -now closed for judging- Paradise could be many things- a place, a dream, or maybe a time spent with someone. There's no wrong answer there, because paradise to you is going to be different from what someone else's paradise is. Your goal here is to show us what you think paradise is. This is obviously going to be a very open ended contest, so I'm hoping to see a variety of ideas for what makes a paradise. Because there are so many possibili...

Kloxboy, I am only trying to help, I apologize if I said something to upset you, that was not my intention :)
Kloxboy (Sep 2, 2007)
Pantera: No worries, no apology needed. Thanks.

Great job Arique, too bad you were too late, imo it was one of the best runs of to hide from the other artists in this contest
So you just get a virtual feather in your hat. :D

OH man what a frickin bummer. This really rocks though, great way to combine the two. It's a great painting, I like the colors and his expression...really gets the feelings of love and hate across. I understand the competition thing, I was in choir and I loved it...I used to joke that there were four parts to our choir instead of three...Soprano, Second, Alto, and MEL. *hated Mel*

I like yours. Interchangeable love and hate topics are cool.
Kloxboy (Sep 2, 2007)
Congratulations sweet_insanity (Michelle) , "sugar, spice and everything nice." is awarded first place for Contest Week 59: Love & Hate Hybrid. Described as the interchangeable piece, this certainly is a unique take on the love/hate theme. I like how she's licking the sugar, brings the 2 subjects together in a very practical manner. I particularly like the tongue, it's well rendered and has form. Sugar can certainly be hated in the right context, well done.

Congrats on the win!

This is for the contest, didn't turned out how I wanted, but I think it does to the contest. I don't like Bush so much (neitherone does in Holland. hehe :P) and I do like strawberry's. So I forced Bush to eat a strawberry.

Very dangerous creature. They suspend themselves over your bed and when you fall asleep they drop down and lick your face until you pee yourself

Congratulations Mooki, "Quizical" is awarded first place for Contest Week 58: Opposite Hand Drawing. I love the stylistic approach to this piece. The more I look at this the more I'm reminded of the style of Mucha and Muntz, with the feel of oils brushed on thickly and loosely on the canvas. That it was done with the left hand makes it even more remarkable. It seems almost a glimpse of a much larger canvas and makes you want to know what the rest of piece looks like. I feel like I stumbled in on her private thought's. If this were on a wall my attention would be focused on it. Wonderfully done Brooki.

I wanted to get the artists here to expand their talents beyond what they can do by having them go opposite to what they're comfortable with. This was a good exercise in control and format and allowed people to explore untapped areas. For these two weeks right and left merged and produced great results. I wasn't dissapointed. Though I know many of the artists here temporarily suffered, :) I'm glad they put so much effort into this, and I know from reading the comments that lessons were learned (and hands were placed in bowls of ice water) The truly hard part has been on my end. This one was a toughie to judge.
mooki (edited Aug 19, 2007)
oh my god...

artists really do suffer for their work.

i geuss it pays off huh?
:D

THANK YOU!
