Don't use the fill tool to color in pictures, put the color on a another layer behind the layer with the outlines, you may need to stay on beginner a tad longer until you improve more.

Um, not intermediate skill, sorry. You should layer (well, I'm sort of a hypocrite, but I fill in every little missed spot I see).
