Who Is Franklin Raines?
Franklin Rains is the former chairman and chief executive
officer of Fannie Mae, the government sponsored enterprise
started in 1939 to offer mortgages to Americans wishing to
become home owners. After serving as budget director under
President Bill Clinton, Mr. Raines served as CEO at Fannie
Mae from 2000 until 2004. While Mr. Raines was CEO, Fannie
Mae went deep into the practice of buying mortgages based on
almost no or no money down given to borrowers who could not
afford them. During this time he received bonuses and
salary over 90 million dollars. In 2004 he was offered
'early retirement' after the accounting practices used
at Fannie during his tenure to secure top executive bonuses
were shown to be fraudulent. Civil charges were filed
against Raines and two other former executives which sought
$110 million in penalties and $115 million in returned
bonuses from the three accused. On April 18, 2008, the
government announced a settlement with Raines
together with J. Timothy Howard,
Fannie's former chief financial officer, and Leanne G.
Spencer, Fannie's former controller. The three
executives agreed to p ay fines totaling about $3 million,
which will be paid by Fannie's insurance policies.
When pressed by the Bush administration to tighten down
regulations on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, members of
congress - Republicans and Democrats alike - in positions
to pass such regulations, did nothing. Today, Fannie Mae
owns or guarantees over half of America's 12 trillion
dollar mortgage market, and we are in the middle of a credit
crunch and housing slump brought on in large part by
government backed Fannie Mae going down this dangerous
credit slope under Mr. Raines.

And where is Franklin Raines today? He is a chief
economic advisor to the presidential campaign of Senator
Barack Obama.

I felt like looking at this once more.
I think it's the only abstract piece who ever brought tears to my eyes, and managed to do it twice.

I'm trying to understand what's so great in it, and I really don't know. But I really love it.
Dr.Moony (Sep 22, 2012)
@shults: honestly the comment I think back to the most.
It's cool to think that a painting can make someone tear up for a moment, especially since I never experienced it. Music is a stronger medium to me...I wonder why.
shults (edited Sep 22, 2012)
Nice to know.. :) It's not too often that sight amazes me in a good way, but it happened before, that I was so amazed and excited by a piece of art that I teared (it happened in museums, here, and by 'natural pieces of art' like the first time I saw a whale).

It's like a puzzle that I want to keep taking apart and putting back together again...and...it's beautiful!

I'm going to sound like a total bitch, so please forgive me; this doesn't belong in the intermediate board. I'm really not trying to be mean or anything, I just think that you might be more suited to the beginner's board at least for a while. It usually a good idea to mess around in there for the first few months of joining 2draw until you get a really good feel for the tools. If you think your ready for the transition to a higher board but aren't quite sure what everybody else thinks, you can always ask. For the most part people will give you their honest opinion. But don't be discouraged. Keep drawing and practicing and you'll be ready for the higher boards in no time.

Happy NaNoWriMo, everyone. November is National Novel Writing Month. 30 days, 50,000 words, countless cups of coffe, and one hell of a project.
This is detecive John Mackers, the main charcter of my novel. The book opens with him being shot. He's in ICU in a coma for the remainder of the story as his partner, Brian Randels, tries to peice together how and why Mackers was shot. Keeping Mackers the main character while in a coma is going to be quite intersting. . .
I'd explain more but that would be a lot to type and I'm needlessly long winded to begin with.
