forums2draw.net2draw wiki

So here's what's going on. First I want everyone to know that our wiki (the link is at the top right of this page too next to My Studio) has had some new updates lately, but it still needs more. Recently I've been active elsewhere and doing some work on another wiki site, learning more about how to set up pages and formatting in wiki, etc. I've found that it's a lot of fun to be working with other people on a common project and I'm hoping we can get our own wiki to be a little more like that. Our 2draw wiki is actually looking pretty good so far, but of course it needs more work. That's where you guys come in. I know a lot of people are willing to help on the wiki, but I also know a lot of people don't know how.

It's actually very easy, easier than you might expect at first, but remember that no matter what you do someone else can fix any mistakes or pick up where you left off. That's an important thing to remember right there- you don't actually have to finish anything you do. Of course we'd like you to finish, but since everyone's in this together there's really no pressure to fully polish anything. If all you want to do, or know how to do, is write some basic text on a page then at least that's something and someone else can come later to format/organize it. Even adding a few sentences to one page of the wiki is a big help. If you really want, you could just type a basic guide for something and give it to someone like me to add to the wiki if you don't want to bother with learning the wiki coding yourself and I'll give you the credit for writing it. It's just important to get the information there so we'll have some more content. If you want to do it all yourself but have any questions at all about it then you could memo me to ask how something is done.

Now, on that other wiki site I've been working on lately they have a page for a list of all the things that need work. I remember that in the past people here wanted to contribute but weren't sure what they should do, so I'm going out on a limb here and made a list of our own to give a little direction. You can find it by clicking Community Portal on the left side of the wiki and it can be accessed no matter what page you're viewing. You don't have to work on anything in this list if there's something else you can think of, this is just all of the unfinished things that are currently there. Here's the same list I just posted there-

Projects in Progress

The order these are posted in is based on how important each one is, but feel free to work on any of them in any order. These are not in the order of the hardest or the most work. Some of the most important things that need to be done are very simple, so don't be afraid to check them out!

Very Important

*Lighting - needs complete page creation, etc.

*Perspective - needs complete page creation for two and three point, and isometric perspectives, as well as advanced concepts

*Realism - finish remaining steps, add examples

*Applet Troubleshooting - needs to have at least something there

*Basic Editing - this page needs to be more prominent on the wiki

*Main Page - reorganize to be easier to read and have more links to various sections of the wiki

*Tutorials and Guides - needs more guides in general. Step by step guides about the styles of various 2draw artists, guides to human anatomy, guides to creating paint-like/real media effects using the applets, and guides to advanced anime would be a good start

Important

*Layers - shi-painter and lineart sections are empty, lascaux section needs more

*Lineart - could be more organized, needs example images

*Composition - focus and weight sections are empty, needs more (real life) examples

*Basic Anime - add more examples, maybe some step by step ones

*Pulp Composition - fill out remaining empty sections

*Weather and Atmospheric Effects - fill out remaining empty sections and reformat page

*Tutorial Websites - needs edits/corrections, more tutorials migrated from here and more sites added to the list

Minor

*Color - needs reformatting

*JTablet - could have a slightly longer description

*Lascaux Sketch - Anti-Aliasing & Smooth Lines section needs to be filled out

*OekakiBBS - needs at least a short description

*Oekaki Shi-Painter - could use at least one example image, maybe a screenshot with number labels

*PaintBBS - needs at least a short description

*Ascii2draw - might have a little more to the description, but not a big deal

*FAQ - memo section needs to be finished

*Moderators - newer moderators need to be added, list of active ones needs updating. I wouldn't suggest doing that unless you are one or know these people well enough to know who's active.

*Community Portal - update the list of contributors at the bottom of this page

One other note- Wiki is about communally working toward a common goal, in this case a broad guide to art with many specialty subjects, and it's okay to take it upon yourself to make changes, even big changes, and even changes to something originally posted by someone else. Anything you post can be changed by anyone else, and anything someone else has posted was already done so with that in mind, so if you see something you want to contribute to go right ahead and do it.
