Try some shading in your next piece, please.

I think this is stylistic. You can easily tell when someone purposely doesn't shade and when they cannot shade. You cannot fault one for not shading if they chose not to shade! For an example see my Gheto Dinosaurs pic! People complained, but it owns the earth, as well as the moon.
