why do people seem to hate Lascaux Sketch so much?
  icon
Hakkai (Aug 15, 2004)
People don't HATE lascaux sketch. Oh nononono NO. Some people adore lascaux sketch. Other people tend to find Shi Painter better for them. Lascaux Stech, in my oppinion, is more a bit more complicated than Shi painter and the rest of the applets. Once you get use to it, LS can be your beeest friend.

My only problem with LS is that I can't seem to figure out how to get smooth (thin) lines yet.

i don't understand the question. :/

Pence (Aug 15, 2004)
Okay, I here some people go i "loathe" LS and they much prefer Oekaki Shi-Painter.. at least i believe majority does. although i find them equal... got it?

Knockoff (Aug 15, 2004)
Nupe. I <3 paint bbs.
  icon
JackSprat (Aug 15, 2004)
geez...how can anybody confuse the two? I said I hate ASPARAGUS, not lascaux sketch! Geez!
(although I have noticed that I have to adjust the saturation on my printer with lascaux, because the colors come out washed out, unlike the other paint engines on here.)

sal (Aug 16, 2004)
i found ls hard to use as a beginner, so i just stuck with shi painter...
  icon
Pence (Aug 16, 2004)
yeah i think i prefer shi just because it has more options. woot ^_^
  icon
marcello (Aug 16, 2004)
such as?
  icon
Anna (Aug 16, 2004)
hehe.. exactly, Marcello ;) If you stick with Lascaux, you can do anything with it and more. I love it.

Gothic_Otaku (edited Aug 16, 2004)
Lascaux ish teh rox0rz. it can do anything. shi painter is for the lazy users
  icon
marcello (Aug 16, 2004)
actually it can't do everything. For example, rotate or stretch something, even 90 degrees. And the antialias tool leaves much to be desired. Not to mention animation support...
  icon
Anna (Aug 16, 2004)
It's still perfect for me. :P
  icon
Gigandas (edited Aug 16, 2004)
Thanks, I'm a lazy user then eh^^;?Ah well, I don't mind being lazy anyway.I only use Shi Painter cause it's what I was used to before I came here.I used to go to those Shi-chats.

-Btw, I think I can name an option the Shi-Painter has that the Lascaux doesn't have and is crucial to me.That would be the Airbrush tool and without it, I'd be strugglig like crazy.Maybe I haven't looked enough on Lascaux to find the tool but as far as I searched, I didn't see one.
  icon
Anna (Aug 16, 2004)
It's there ;)
  icon
Gigandas (Aug 16, 2004)
Really?Where...?Can't find it...

Here ya go: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/Anna242/Airbrush.jpg :)
  icon
Gigandas (Aug 16, 2004)
lol thanks for going thru the trouble to make that screenshot for me^^;.There's no problem with the opacity stuff in Lascaux either?Cause when I use this tool on Photoshop, the opacity meter barely changes anything^^;....
  icon
marcello (Aug 16, 2004)
There's flow and opacity, they both act differently, and if you try both, you'll get an idea how they both work.
  icon
Anna (edited Aug 16, 2004)
Nope no problem at all with it. Putting the opacity really low makes the airbrush really... airy. lol

Edit: yeah, what he said :D
  icon
Gigandas (Aug 16, 2004)
Hmm, maybe I'll try it again sometime. Can't draw on the net without my AirBrush tool....thanks guys.

zep (Aug 16, 2004)
.....what i really like about shi painter it´s the show animation feature....maybe there´s something like that in lascaux...but i can´t find it yet...
  icon
LovelyLori (Aug 16, 2004)
lascaux rules my world, thank you Marcello....
  icon
Anna (Aug 16, 2004)
zeppy.. in Lascaux there's no animation.
I don't care too much for it though.... don't want anyone to see all my mistakes. lol :P But it is fun to watch other's animations.. like ED's. I watch hers a lot. :D
  icon
Pence (Aug 17, 2004)
wow.. i think i need to try Lascaux a few more times.... I still think Shi is better though XP.
  icon
Cordelia_Pink (Aug 17, 2004)
Lascaux is cool too. I prefer Oekaki-Shi because like what other people have said it has the animation and stuff. But I like the whole sharpen, and smoothen tools. But for Oekaki it was a lot easier to figure out (resizing the pencil tool is a lot better). Took some time for me to figure out Lascaux.
  icon
Kasha (Aug 17, 2004)
ewwww.... because Lascock is UUUUUUUGLY! and everything seems too compressed. Shi-painter on the other hand is nice and neat and is so KEEEEEEEEEWT like a lil Japanese school boy.
  icon
Cordelia_Pink (Aug 17, 2004)
lol @ Kasha... Lascock? lmao ha ha nice one. Shi-painter is like a Japanse school boy? lmao OK, sure. Shi-painter is fun.
  icon
Pence (edited Aug 19, 2004)
lol @ Kasha... you proved my point. some people HATE Lascaux..
  icon
marcello (Aug 19, 2004)
shi painter has two modes, novice and advanced. novice is lacking some of the necessary features (like color selector), while advanced has floating toolboxes that always get in the way. go figure.
I'm not saying lascaux is much better.
  icon
Anna (Aug 19, 2004)
heh.. but I am.
  icon
Pence (Aug 21, 2004)
I think there equal...........???
  icon
Cordelia_Pink (Aug 24, 2004)
Yes, they're equal. But I think Oekaki-Shi is better because of the animation. I love watching the animations. It's not that I love watching mistakes, it's just that I love watching HOW people create their masterpieces. That's what's great about Oekaki-Shi. And the rest of it too, the tools and so on. Lascaux is good too.

hate is a big word u know...
  icon
Cordelia_Pink (Aug 24, 2004)
hate is a strong word you mean lol
  icon
Pence (Aug 24, 2004)
yah, the animation feature is da bomb.

Xodiak (edited Sep 20, 2004)
Lascaux has better layer support and better undo history support. It also has great tools that resemble the tools of advanced paint programs rather than oekaki applets. There are still a few things that could be improved like adding animation support and the stretch, rotation tools.
My greatest concern with lascaux is cleaning up the lineart, I believe Hakkai reffered to that in her post. It is a little hard to configure the tools in a way that you find an easy method for cleaning up the lineart nicely, especially if you got used to the PaintBBS applet.
I use a 2x2 pixels square solid not anti-aliased and not smooth brush for drawing and cleaning lineart. I configure the flow to be 8 or 9.
