scrunched-up faces are fun to paint.

my crazy Ukrainian grandma taught me to make cabbage rolls today. because all good saskatchewan girls should know how to make cabbage rolls.

Yes, I used a reference, but I've no idea where he is...

That lighting effect you have of the sunflare behind the leafs. I envy your masterfull blending and lighting effects. So smoothe and suttle.

mmm, idk...i think its more the detail of the rug, the shadow of the plant, some light source reflecting over the couch, the way he gave the couch such a comfy plush feeling with a few brush strokes...how if you look every line, every stroke, seems almost careless because his eye for light and form is so phenomenal, he doesnt need to second guess or overwork it.

i don't think many people can appreciate how amazing this picture is.

backmagicwoman (Sep 28, 2009)
I do see what you mean..I was just cutting up....the couch does look velvety soft...and i especailly like the vent cover there.....it does belong in showcase..

Congratulations!! XD.. I really like this one.
probably cause it's anthro... the line art, the
shading, and the high lights are all equally
brilliant. Awesome job.

The photo ref I painted this from is from the photographer's private collection, the woman pictured here is his wife. I wanted to paint from his online DA photo gallery and even commented that I intended to do so. Out of the blue he hit me up on MSN regarding his photos and me painting one. He showed me this private photo and suggested I paint it instead. I think it worked out nicely, she has many qualities that look good painted, even digitally.

this is a list of things i would like to tell you about myself:

i don't like looking at photographs of people i know

i touch my neck and collarbones when i don't know what to do with my hands

i like to chew the ends of pens

i am terrified that i am or may someday be boring

vacuuming is my least favourite household chore

i have this romantic fantasy that i will one day move to arizona and live in the desert and be dusty and dry and eccentric and have a motorcycle. people will come to visit me in my tiny desert house and we will drink gin and talk about interesting things and watch the stars. even the word arizona is lovely to say. this idea of arizona is so built up in my mind that i almost never want to go there for fear that the real arizona could not help but disappoint, and i don't want to ruin the daydream.

i dance in a manner embarrassingly similar to my mother

i am immediately charmed by anyone whose smile tips up higher on one side

tell me something about yourself if you like

I meant that as a compliment when I said that you looked like this nurse. She had been an army nurse when she was younger, but when I knew her she was older, and was the "head nurse" on the floor that I worked on. You look like a younger version of this nurse.....and yes, she was very strict, but she was honest and fair.....I had much respect for her. I don't know any sign language at all....I wish I did.....I bet it would be very interesting to learn. Awesome portrait!! :)
elly (Dec 22, 2009)
(hope this little story doesn't bore you too much....if it does, you can slap me around later =p

I learned a song in sign language a few years ago, a Christmas song to be exact called "Humble Mary, Gentle Mary." (or was that "Gentle Mary, Humble Mary"??) ....Anyway, I learned it from a deaf woman/friend of mine so I could lead her thru the song she was performing during a children's Christmas performance we put together. It wasn't easy to learn as it had many many motions but I was determinded!

During the performance at one point in the song, she swung her hand down and out and hit the live mic stand next to her, knocking it over to the floor with a big crash (she didn't hear a thing tho>wink<)..but, we kept going and finished the song to great applause.

The funny part is that this song was the only (seemingly) 'serious' part of the production but it left everyone a bit confused as to whether or not it was set up and supposed to happen because the play, called "Nativity, The Final Dress Reheasal", was about kids rehearsing for a Christmas play who were not understanding the true meaning of Christmas and sorta write their own parts...for example..."Mary" dresses up in a fancy robe and slippers because after all, she "IS giving birth to the Son of God so why shouldn't she dress up a little" and one of the 3 wise men comes out dressed up as Elvis...he told his mother he needed a costume for a play because he's playing "a King"...She thinks he's playing the part of "The King" and gets him the Elvis costume...he even had a grand entrance with strobe lights, fog and Elvis moves...lol..

Many other 'rehearsed mistakes' take place throughout the whole performance and to this day, no one knows for sure if that mic was hit on purpose or not =) LOL!

nice draw, patience!

I like your story, Elly.
About me..
I'm a funny person.
I've been accused of being 'too nice.'
I used to sing professionally.
I lived in Arizona for 7 yrs, and it was magical.
I've kissed someone for 45 minutes without doing anything else and it was bliss.
Some music moves me to the point of distraction.
I love too deeply.
I'm too hard on myself.
I've done many drugs in my life and am blessed to be alive.
I haven't done any drugs or alcohol since March 12, 1989.
I've been a Den Mother, assistant Soccer Coach, a model and a dancer.
I love creative projects and I've created 2 books so far.
I put together a Celebration of Life Video for two of my favorite people.
My Grandfather looked like Burt Lancaster and my Grandmother looked like Maureen O'hara, and my Mom looked like Natalie Wood as a young girl.
People used to say I looked like Marie Osmond, and in 8th grade, I 'went steady' with a boy for one week who looked like Donny Osmond...lol
When I was 25, I sang at Wahweap Lodge at Lake Powell, in Page, Az. and a little girl asked me for my autograph after the dinner set we did. :o)
My best trait is my friendliness.
My worst trait is my intolerance.

I went to Arizona for Christmas. It wasn't like I imagined but it still was such a wonderful place. Gorgeous scenery, too. I'm going to move there at the end of February.
