Looks awesome, almost like a dream
Sweetcell (Mar 8, 2008)
I like this but it looks unfinished. The scribbly lines (especially on the face) look like a preliminary sketch and the thing looks imcomplete.
QTgillie (Mar 8, 2008)
Sweetcell...thanks for the critique but the scribble lines are very close to the ref. pic, did you look at it?
STARZSHINE (Mar 9, 2008)
love this Laura, I may have this same lady, but with a different pose. I just love the Carnivale of Venice, and I have tons of pics that I want to do when I get brave enough, lol. Some are quite intricate and I may just do them a bit at a time. Love the colors and the playfulness this has. One day I would love to go and witness this festival for myself. ah one can only dream, in the meantime we can draw and paint and make us believe we are there...:D

Beautiful ... I love the markings! Hi, Laura :) gel-o, we have freeze warnings in FL tonight ... a day ago, we were running the a/c!
davincipoppalag (Mar 8, 2008)
VEry pretty drawing.. parts of Ohio got 16+ inches of snow today Aieeee
Sweetcell (Mar 8, 2008)
Wish you'd work more on the ground, and I can't see where the eye is. Still pretty.
QTgillie (Mar 8, 2008)
Sorry Sweetcell....this is staying as is, it is as it was intended. I had the ground exactly as the ref pic was and decided I did not like it, and I changed it to this contrast from the photo.....I happen to like the bird realistic and the ground more sketchy....thanks anyway!

Hey Fuzzy. Welcome to 2Draw. Starzshine, Gel-0 and QTgillie are also here. Wow, that's an amazing fly. I look forward to seeing more of your drawings.
gel_o (Mar 6, 2008)
Hey Fuzzy and yes, welcome to 2draw. This is a very good first pic here on this website and think you should be submitting on Intermediate instead of Beginner. You are very talented and this is great so keep them coming!
Sweetcell (Mar 7, 2008)
People begin in begginers to get used to the appelet's, it's what's reccommended. The talent's there for sure though.
STARZSHINE (Mar 8, 2008)
Hey fuzzy, welcome! missed your work, but now I can see it here! wonderful as always can't wait til I see more! I am so happy you joined the "dark side" lol, :D

this is great....easily one of my all time favorites. what i love most is the fine webs between her sac and her abdomen. i agree about the egg, that it needs tweaking, it seems less defined than the rest, but without seeing the photo, hard to judge.

came across a few of these in my days, they are quite passive, enough that you can let one wander across your palm. this makes me want to draw my old colalt blue tarantula. crazy mofo who busted out of his cage, and met his untimely doom in the jowels of my even more crazy mofo of a cat. i found him in the morning, belly up, missing a couple legs...

OOps, I meant to put this on intermediate...please forgive me. The layers are still confusing me. I would like to know if you can move it aside while drawing on another layer and then retrieve it. Was also wondering if you can revise your image after you submit it as done. This one was three layers.

Ahhh Laura, you know I am a sucker for the birdies, and especially the cardinals, I have tons of refence pics I want to do, Your work is fantastic and you are really starting to get the hang of it, and it shows in this one. Beautiful draw, and yes you can hide layers by clicking on the button next to them. you can even delete the "outline" layer that you don't want before you merge them, or any layer that maybe you were "experimenting" with, and come back and make a new layer if needed. And yes you can change the order of the layers, which is helpful if while plotting your pic you make an error of order, which I have done, oops, lol. In the oekaki-shi painter you can even use slide to make the layers semi-visible, which is a great help. Btw on your screen next to your name in the login bar, there is "config" that if you click on it allows you to change your applets to an advanced mode, which in the oekaki-shi painter gives you more layers, and a few more options, I haven't checked yet in lascaux yet to see what is available. memo me if you need any help or have any questions, I may be able to help.
Meno (Mar 5, 2008)
LOVE cardinals; love this cardinal, in particular!
gel_o (Mar 6, 2008)
This is great QT, a wonderful pic and you said you are a slow learner. Very nice!
Sweetcell (Mar 7, 2008)
If you cleaned up some of the lines, fixed the bg a bit, and just added more light leaves there'd be no problem to have it here. Just needs cleaning up and tweaking.

About layers, on Lascaux they work the same as Shi, you can hide them, move them, merge them, and even make them opaque the same as Shi by moving the slider. Just make sure it's highlighted blue or you'll be making the wrong one transparant. If your still confused you can memo me or try the Wiki tutorial.

I kept thinking"is this a varmint?is this a photo shop?"hamsters do this?yeah, this is so darn cute, you could put it on cards you send peiople, and you'd cute them to death;what a wonderful painting work!fuzzy with paint, yow, i want one!you have a genius for animals, i see you animating their lil furry carcasses in revivals of "toy story"films. this talent wit critters should not be wasted.colors and details of fur...wonderful.my oracle says, "you will do critters,in the future, and make millions of adult kids very happy."(but what is the hamster saying,up there?"My feet are in knots,I can't get them untied!HELP!!")FABULOUS. :)

http://www.seagrant.wisc.edu/birds/common_loon_intro.html

This has three layers. I still get confused between the layers. This is a common loon which is the Minnesota state bird. Of course we would pick a duck as we are the land of 10,000 lakes. I am enjoying drawing here!
