Psychadellic.....what a hippie word, just say cool, or awesome
alwaysLearning (Feb 16, 2004)
Hey, some of us see nothing wrong with "hippie words" -- and this piece merits the term, I think. It definitely depicts an altered perception of reality! All in all, a very cool, very promising work! Thanks for telling us a bit about the tools you're using, Zappo -- I haven't used Shi-Painter much, I'll have to try the pen, if it can contribute to results like this! :) Of course, the tool is nothing without the artistic vision, and I'd have to say that you have that, in spades! I really look forward to watching your work develop -- and this piece confirms it, I'll be bookmarking your gallery! :)

This one's my favorite, Zappo. And this blurry style is superb. Very smooth.

This is a very emotionally effective piece, despite its simplicity! I love the message in it. :)

Ooh, this piece is nice! I agree with tigr3ss - the raven is very effective, despite some anatomical flaws - this piece was good enough to catch my eye from your user gallery, as I was browsing your work. I admit that I'm rather fond of ravens to start with, but this piece is good! Nice use of environmental imagery to practise with - I prefer not to see artists stick with copying other people's work, but I can see why you'd want to try your hand at this piece -- and it's really nicely rendered. :) I'd love to learn more about some of the techniques you're using. :)

Very nice underwater view of a skate! <smile> It makes me want to experiment with more drawings of this type -- very nicely done, but also very inspirational, and that (to me) is one of the hallmarks of a good artistic creation.

Watch me the first on to post on this board. Please check out meh Elfwood gallery; I live off the comments there. Seriously. And if any of you complain or mention that I should get a Deviantart gallery, I'll...thwap you with a sock. Because I despise that place. They haven't absolutely horrible navigation/organization. Done whining now. [edit]: Fixed, thanks Zappo. Malo linko? Wonderful Spanish skills there.

See, this girl would fit my castle in the red princess' picture. I have to go to bed now, so I'l finish her later.

... how do you spell rennaissance, anyway? ....

Edit: She now has a face and hair

Awww i love it! gorgous, all it needs is a bg!! aww i cant wait!
alwaysLearning (Mar 5, 2004)
This is pretty! It rather reminds me of the Elizabethan Barmaid I'm working on at the moment, actually, I was kind of surprised to see another piece here so similar in appearance. <smile>

By the by -- in answer to your question, it's spelled "renaissance", meaning "rebirth" (which is how I remember not to double the "n", because it's re-naissance, if you break the word down into its component parts).

And, not to be picky, but the costume isn't renaissance in style -- that would be more like your classic "Romeo & Juliet" style of clothing. This dress style is more like those from about 100 years later, at least; but it's well executed, which is what matters -- <smile> -- not a slip of the tongue in labelling the era.

And yes, I know the style of dress is common at "Renaissance Faires", but they usually include a mixture of historical eras in their costuming, etc., which I think confuses people. <wry chuckle>

I'm not finished, but she looks pretty spiffy right now... I've got to go have lunch, so I'l come back later.
Edit: There! Now, ain't she pretty? i know she's small, but i plan on drawing a big dragon next, so this was just for fun.

Turtlebuster, i did shade her, but she's so small that you cant really notice it. I suppose that she could use more, though. Oh, and I don't care if the background matches. I was just drawing, not sending in a
sketch to the historical society or anything. I could draw somebody who actually LOOKS medieval, but maybe later.
Hotaru-chan (edited Aug 18, 2003)
this is very beutiful!!!!

=3
alwaysLearning (Mar 5, 2004)
This is quite pretty, and though I do agree that there's a bit of difference in feel between the background and the foreground, to me it doesn't come across as being quite as extreme a difference as it apparently does to Turtlebuster. I particularly love what you've done with her hair!

My one question is whether her right (farther) shoulder is a little high, or whether it's intended to suggest that she's picking up her skirts on that side, and that's why her shoulder is lifted a bit out of true? Either way I try to interpret it, her neckline seems a bit out of true on that side, and so I've been wondering what you intended.

I've been trying to master poses similar to this one, and my eye for them seems better than my hands can execute so far, but I find it helpful to learn from others' work. As a result, I'm particularly interested in details of the pose, and how to make it convincing to the eye, that's why I ask.

Regardless of the answer, I still think she's quite pretty and eyecatching -- she really stands out, even at this small size and amid the assortment of other pictures in this portion of your gallery. <smile> I'm browsing through your pictures in chronological order, to see how you got to your present skill level, and seeing your earlier works is encouraging -- it gives me hope that with practise, my own work will likewise progress in skill, from the "merely pretty" (no insult intended) to the "truly stunning", as yours has. <smile>

Yea. I agree with every one that posted on this. You bob1ggity is wasting your time. If you think your wasting your time then dont comment. *cough* This is cool. I like the line-blur idea.
alwaysLearning (Nov 27, 2004)
This caught my eye from Ari's Gallery, and I have to say, graywolf, you created a nice effect by blurring the lines like that. I really like the results -- and I consider them very inspirational, in terms of giving me ideas about how to use the tool to better effect.
