I deem this to be average too and I am an authority on this kind of thing.

Ooh, this is pretty. I like the hair the most. :)
and I don't think this is just "average" though, compared to a lot of people (not just here) yeah, it could be better though.

Oh, this seemed angelic indeed, until I spotted some unsatisfied, inquiring look in his eye. It destroys the angelic image. very interesting.
Also, I think I liked his chin on 2nd version better.
LifeGotColour (Jan 2, 2010)
amazing composition!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 4, 2010)
This is captivating... the facial expression is amazing, and the execution of light and shadow here is more than masterfully done. If this were actually an oil painting I would hang it on my wall in a heartbeat... I haven't liked anything this much in a long time.
Roytje (Feb 10, 2010)
That's a sweet compliment. Thanks a lot.

Thank you, bmw. This is from so long ago, I had forgotten to look at until starsh came in. I did this about the time I started drawing here for one of Clox's contests. (wish you would do them again, Clox)..anyway, glad you like it, it's one of my most comfortable ways of doodling. :)
lynnandcharlie (Feb 6, 2010)
one day I was shopping and heard thunder the same time I saw lightning and thought boy that was close, when I got home my husband and 3 kids had that same look on their faces, they had been placing a metal ladder against the house when the lightning struck the roof and ladder. they let go just in time
Suntan (Feb 7, 2010)
I was rinsing a fork off during a storm and a ball of lightning..that's the only way I can explain it because it was round, came through the window and stopped at the sink. I had a few friends with me, so I wasn't the only one who saw it.. Clap of thunder, the ball of lightning, and gone. It was freaky and very scary so I can imagine your husband and kids.
lynnandcharlie (Feb 7, 2010)
that sounds scary as well

you did a great drawing of someone with a head injury, her pupil is dialated and it looks like an old scar on her forehead and she has a sad look to her face like some older people get. she is probably feeling bewildered

Hey, thank you all for the comments! I'm really motivated to draw more now. I do see it's too small, for sure. I have trouble committing to the huge amount of work that a bigger canvas requires... But I really, really enjoyed this picture! It's been a while since I've taken my art seriously... A long time... But mostly because I got frustrated and scared I'd never be able to the art I really wanted to make. This picture, though, and your comments, really renew faith in my ability, or potential at least!

Thanks!!

Next picture will definitely be larger.
elly (Dec 29, 2009)
You just need a little more confidence in yourself! I used to feel the same way =) I don't think a bigger canvas requires more work, just longer lines...lol ;p....but whatever the size canvas, it's the effort you decide to put into that particular drawing. Some drawings get more effort than others depending on mood, inspiration, time...etc... altho this is rather small, I can see that you put your effort into it and worked with it. Keep it up! And welcome to 2d! I'm elly, nice to meet you =)
QTgillie (Dec 29, 2009)
very nice indeed

Thanks Elly! I feel like you really do know my problem pretty well, and love the perspective you put it in!
