For Joseph.

The reference is a photo that my friend Joseph had from when he was in Iraq.

Two German scouts on a motorcycle end up taking a wrong turn while navigating the roads of Northern France.

I love that motorcycle, it's so sexy. :P

'Slider' Armed Robotic Sentry

Intended for mild security duty, the Slider is armed with a dual laser turret and three targeting eyes to help it discern distance and movement. On flat ground it can maintain a maximum moving speed of nearly 15 MPH, and due to its lightweight construction it has a vertical jump of 4.2 feet. However, Sliders have severe difficulty making sudden stops or turns at speeds above 6 MPH, prompting their nickname.

The standard Slider model shown here weighs in at a mere 180 lbs and stands about 4' tall. While the dual laser turret remains the most popular choice of weaponry, Sliders are also available with dual submachine guns or a single high-caliber machine gun in the turret.

Although not a particularly fearsome robot individually, Slider units are able to wirelessly communicate with each other to swarm a foe. Those who are interested in low-cost security often will purchase a few Sliders rather than spring for a larger, more expensive robot due to how easy it is to upgrade a security force by adding extra Slider units.

Shanghai (Dec 10, 2006)
I've been thinking about drawing a frosty mountain town for awhile, but the exact design I just made up as I went. I was thinking of various old games as I made it.

loosely named after Thule

I made Tahei with the idea of a country at the top of the world that's perpetually frozen. There's a Christmas themed mining town (it takes a lot of coal for all the bad kids out there), a glacier roaming with snow beasts, frozen waterfalls during the winter when it gets really cold, a hot springs for the small monkey population (based on a type of monkey in Japan that does go into hot spring waters), an icy moon that's closer than you'd think (it is the top of the world after all), and a castle on the mountain top. I haven't decided who lives in the castle, but it's not Santa Claus. I like real world references and influences, but I normally avoid directly using fictional/real life characters or places since it is my own fantasy world I'm making. Tahei as a country may only be made up of one town and a castle, but they never have to worry about being invaded because no army would want to bother with it. The monkeys here are like miniture yetis, and the snow beasts are their much larger cousins (think The Empire Strikes Back and that big snow monster that attacked Luke at the beginning).

maybe the castle will be a pathway to the moon. The owner of the castle should be based on Kaguya Hime from Japanese folklore (a princess who came from the moon). The pathway should open up during the full moon, and there should be a race of Lunarians there like in Final Fantasy 4 or in the Touhou game series (Imperishable Night was about Kaguya). There was also a villan based on Kaguya in one of the Inu Yasha movies.

mursku (Feb 16, 2010)
i was thinking that i might learn more from copying some great paintings instead of fotos.
For my first one, i chose one of my favorite artists, Josh Kirby, to copy from. He was a really great artist, but its a bit difficult to find a good painting from him to copy, as he tended to do those really detailed paintings (especially on the Discworld books)
for reference i chose one of his simpler paintings: http://andokai.blog.cz/0608/josh-kirby
