Perhaps you should plan your image out a little more first, think what you're going to draw, do a sketch, erase it, do another sketch, then trace on another layer once you're happy. Usually, no matter what skill level you are at, spending more time on a given picture (I'd say at least 25 minutes), will give much more satisfying results.
