Contest Week 71: Computer Wallpaper *two week contest
For the next two weeks your task (should you choose to accept it) is to draw Computer Wallpapers. We've all on occasion seen an amazing piece here and asked permission to make it into a personal desktop. Now you can ply your talents to making just that. It can be whatever you want. A landscape, animals, scene from a movie, anime, whatever your imagination holds. The specifics on these however is the size and form. In researching most Wallpapers are 800 pxl by 600 pxl. There are larger sizes but as the canvas only goes to 600 the size must be 600 pxl by 400 pxl. That should be big enough to fit a computer screen, (though I may be corrected on that). And in painting your wallpapers you must keep in mind how they'd fit a normal screen with the Desktop icons in the foreground. Think about how your design would look on someones screen. If your doing a person (say an anime) where would he/she be best placed? Right or left so the icons don't cover any specific part (say the face) If there's writing where would be best to place that. And what colors work best that don't hurt the eye (I've seen a lot of wallpapers that just make your eyes water) I'll be looking at placement, form, and more specific effort. Simple submissions will not be judged. In doing this I'm hoping (after the contest is over, and with the permission of the participents) to have everyone's entry available for anyone here to download it and use it for their own. If you need more on how wallpapers should look Google is your best friend. I would prefer original pieces however if your using a ref for an animal or a character please leave a link. Only one entry per person. I'm looking forward to getting my new.... I mean seeing the entries. As always have fun and please do not copy other artists work. vlad.the.hamster (edited Feb 3, 2008)
just so you know, 4:3 (1024x768, 1600x1200, etc.) ratio would be 600x450.
and widescreen wallpapers would be 600x337. and 5:4 would be 600:480 (1280x1024) 600:400 wouldn't fit anything... perfectly anyway. and I'm pretty sure most monitors are 1024x768 nowadays. |
||||
Sweetcell (Feb 3, 2008)
Well vlad since the canvas will only go to 600 it'll have to be. Those who download could always enlarge it, though it may look pixelated. But not everyone has new monitors. We'll just see.

vlad.the.hamster (Feb 4, 2008)
eh, that wasn't my point... I meant ratios... I know it's not going to fit... obviously... ><
ah well. but can I use 600x450? |
||||
Sweetcell (Feb 4, 2008)
Ok, 600 by 450 is fine. If it is too small for some screens they can add a border around it to fit. That should help.

marcello (Feb 4, 2008)
I've updated the board to support 1024x768.
Enjoy. |

Sweetcell (Feb 5, 2008)
Geeze Mai, you got a big screen?
Can I move in? XD |
||||
Shanghai (Feb 5, 2008)
*only has 1280x1024* ;_;
I could put it up to 1600x1200 but then I'm only getting 60hertz instead of 75. I wouldn't use 1920x1200 anyways though because it's cinema style and I want something with a 4x3 ratio for my tablet. |

lori (Feb 6, 2008)
I'm not entering this because I can't possibly imagine how I would fill all that space
|
||||
marcello (Feb 6, 2008)
mai: brag brag brag.
shanghai: If you're using a LCD, the Hz doesn't mean anything. If you're using a CRT, well, my apologies. lori: just zoom out and draw normally with larger brush sizes. |

marcello (Feb 6, 2008)
yea. you should totally use 1600x1200 then, otherwise your pixels will be stretched.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Since there are still some unfinished pieces I'm not going to judge the contest today. I'm going to extend it to one more day so those who can may finiahs their pices. If however by Monday the pieces aren't finished they won't be judged. I hope people take the opportunity to finish their entries. I'll have Shanghai start his contest today so he won't lose a day. UPDATE: Thanks to all who entered. |
