Hey, this is a message to all you users with a tablet and some version of windows! (You can ignore this message if you don't have both.)

I've finally finished the first beta of JTablet v0.9.1, a complete rewrite of the JTablet plugin for Java. Not familiar with JTablet? It's a plugin for Java that allows applets to read tablet pressure and eraser input and whatnot. Currently Lascaux Sketch and Shi-Painter support JTablet.

v0.9.1 won't add new features to Lascaux Sketch or Shi-Painter, but it opens a whole new door to new tablet possibilities.

So, if you have a tablet and are running windows, slide on over to the sketchstudio website and click the link to download and install JTablet Plugin v0.9.1.

Once you have it installed, you will probably need to restart your web browser, especially if you had the previous version of JTablet installed. If you click on the JTablet test v0.3 it will let you try out the tablet pressure in a funky little mini-oekaki applet. If that reports that you're using version 0.9.1, check out JTablet test v2.0, and it will list all the new information JTablet v0.9.1 supports.

Intuos2 tilt and airbrushes are now supported!

If you can't get it to work, or notice anything unusual in the numbers displayed by JTablet test v2.0, please post the problem on this message. Please tell me what version of Windows you have, what kind of tablet you have, and a description of the problem that's as detailed as you can get (the fewer questions I have to ask, the better).

If you are using Internet Explorer or had the previous version of JTablet (v0.2 or v0.1) you may have to reboot for this to work. If you're using Mozilla or Mozilla Firebird with the Java 2 Plugin, it should work immediately, but a simple Ctrl+Q and relaunch should get it up and running. A reboot probably won't help if that doesn't work.

Last of all, if everything appears to be working, go check out Lascaux Sketch and its tablet features.

works fine for me, although it's super sensitive... i'd rather have it go both darker and gradually bigger than just bigger, that's kind of a pain... most ppl don't use solids all the time, you see...

Are you talking about lascaux sketch or the test applet? The test applet is just a test to see if it works, you're not intended to draw much in it. Lascaux Sketch lets you enable pressure to control flow/opacity and brush size, you can have it control both, one, or neither.

Most of the time i use bud....

It wont work with my tablet. Maybe because mine is shit....it does the job most of the time though...
I have a Packard Bell Pad thingy.....cost me £50..
Any chance you might be able to get it to work?

A couple questions would be: what is the full model number? And from that, or if you know, does it support pressure, for example in programs such as Photoshop, Painter, or openCanvas? Last of all, does it support WinTab?

Packard Bell Pad
Model : 660360
It works with the pressure thing on photoshop.
erm.... if i knew where 2 get wintab i could check it works on that....

Wintab will be part of the driver, if the tablet doesn't support wintab, then jtablet won't work (jtablet uses wintab).
I'm guessing if it works on photoshop, it supports wintab.
Do you get an error on JTablet test v0.3, if so, what is the error?

it says its working......
But it when i put pressure on the pen it either draws or dosnt....

what do the numbers say along the bottom of the applet? Do any of them vary at all?
  icon
Fin_beast (Sep 11, 2003)

Sorry im being a nuissence...
Which applet are you talking about? the test one?
If youre talking about the test one.
All of them are N/A or Null.

I was talking about the other test one... but that works too, I suppose. Very odd that it does that... I'll have to think about it for a bit. :-)

Sounds like you don't have wintab. Do you have a tablet, and are its drivers installed properly?

Very nice, although I agree with lorchick about it being a little bit too sensitive.
Nice feature - the eraser actually works, and IT'S pressure sensitive, too. ^_^
  icon
marcello (Dec 3, 2003)
Um. change your tablet settings if you find it too sensitive, it's not the plugin's fault if you don't like how your tablet is configured.

k_karthek (Dec 3, 2003)
yes ur correct that i dont have wintab driver file. Can you please tell me where can i find it.
  icon
marcello (Dec 4, 2003)
"ur" isn't a word.

And no I can't. Go to the website of your tablet manufacturer. If they don't have a WinTab driver, then you won't be able to use jtablet.

(I figured out to reconfig after I posted that - I was super tired last night. Thanks, though!)

One question - I know it's still in testing mode, but is the sensitivity going to be only for width of the pen, or will it apply to other things as well? Like opacity, darkness, transparency... etc.... ^_^;;
  icon
marcello (Dec 5, 2003)
...it's just a freaking plugin that finds out the pressure from your tablet. the drawing programs can do whatever they want with that number.
opacity, darkness, and transparency are all exactly the same thing, and yes, lascaux will let you control both size and opacity with the tablet, together, separately, and not at all.

Hi,
Hi,
i want to know how to retrieve the content(Some drawings) of Canvas in applet and store that content to an image file.If u know please forward me the code or give me an idea how to do it.

I have no idea what you're talking about. If you're asking about java programming, this is the wrong place. If you drew something in the jtablet demo and want to save it, take a screenshot of your browser and save it.

I need to purchase a pad, This is the second mouse that's lost it's contacts on me. Plus mouse elbow is kicking in from hours of drawing here and on Youdraw. What is the best pad for the price. I was hoping not to spend more than $100.00. ( Is this realistic ? )

everyone i think agrees that the best tablet is wacom if thats what you are talking about when you say pad...
  icon
dixielandcutie (edited Feb 12, 2004)
you can get a wacom 4x5 for about a hundred...

Um...help...i installed the j.tablet thingy, and i tried to test it, but the tester wouldnt load. and i tried on just a regular board...and yea, definitely wasnt pressure sensitive...?? any ideas?

Koyuki (Feb 25, 2004)
I have a Wacom Graphire 2 on Windows XP. I have installed JTablet 0.91, and it has worked perfectly on Test 0.3. However, the pressure sensitivity doesn't work when I try the Lascaux or Shi-Painter oekakis. Some help, please? ^^;;

click the tablet buttons in the bottom-right corner of lascaux.
