forumsdrawing discussionWhy do I run out of size for my drawings?

I dont think I do anything special- but a couple of times now I have completely run out of space on a drawing, so that I cannot complete it. I dont want to post to the advanced board because I dont think Im good enough for it....
I presume on one of my most recent drawings its because I have chosen a canvas size (500x400) that is too big... but I wanted that size to be able to include details, now I have a washy sketch that I cant alter....I only took 15 minutes over it because I wanted to sort of stand back and decide what to do next- and I thought I would be able to do that..... It saysd that you can ask the moderators for more size for a drawing- but I dont want to be cheeky and do that- there are probably lots of people in the same position as me.... However- Is it possible for them to shrink the canvas size to say 400x320 or even 250X200..... to retain the proportions but reduce the scale? If this is possible the drawing is Italia and Germania after Freiderick Overbeck 1789-1869... Thank you...

asking a moderator for space is not being "cheeky" at all. it's part of our job, so go ahead and request more space. we won't bite.

in any case, I don't know why drawings run out of space. I'm sure someone else can tell you though.

Thanks Zinc for your help, may I ask that I be given a little more space to finish that drawing please? Is there a place where I can cobtact the moderators direcrtly or should I come to the forum.... Regards
Christine

I remember there being a post on it here - http://cellosoft.com/2draw/view/44512/

I don't fully understand all of that, but that should be all the info.

Also, remember that file size is partly based on the pixel dimensions of a picture, or rather the total number of pixels. A 500x400 image has 200,000 pixels total, while a 400x600 (what I normally use) has 240,000 pixels. Adding just 100 pixels to one of the sides can cause a pretty big increase in the total amount of pixels.

The first time an unfinished drawing is submitted seems to take much more memory than any revisions. My latest one I spent 13 minutes on version one and submitted it as about a 450ish-kb file. Version 2 I spent 1 hour and 48 minutes on and yet the total file size only went up by just over 100kb. How that works out is probably in that post, but it's still a mystery to me.

Also, notice that if you complete a picture in just the pencil tool it'll take a LOT less space than a picture with even a bit coloured with the pen tool. :> how to save space? Use crappier tools! XD;

Thanks both! Lol Maiko I quite like "drawing" so I could do more sketchy stuff... but the drawing I was doing has really subtle tones... I think I will just try and finish the faces on it....Cheers all!

I may be wrong, but I think you save space by using layers.

it's like a giant mystery that people keep make amusing guesses about even though I explained it. :D

the file size actually depends on how greasy your hands are, all the fat tends to fill up the files.
