just practicing soft contrast

time is way off.

ref was used but I wasn't trying to draw the ref. I just need to look at something with soft contrast.
It looked better before i started playing aroung with it and redrawing it, but this looks ok too I guess.

I like soft. Butterfly wings are soft, down feathers are soft, new grass is soft, kisses are soft, babies are soft (and they smell good, too). This makes me think of times when I stare at a patterned surface for a long time (like the wallpaper in my room when I was little, the marble floor in my bathroom, or the bark of a tree when I'm hunting)... eventually I find faces in it somewhere... I think the human brain is somehow programmed to do that. This is vague and soft, but still definite. I like it. A lot of your art is soft but nobody ever fusses at you for it, like they do me. I'm jealous. :)

Nice one Derrick, I think you should use refs more often.

You should draw more of this kind of thing, Derrick you're good at it > I would like it sharper, though (<I did that for Cindy)
