Contest Week 26: Medieval Ancestors
Your goal this week is to illustrate what you think your medieval ancestor would look like. I don't expect you to trace your ancestry to medieval times, you can use your earliest known ancestor's country of origin. Some of you are a mix of backgrounds and may not know your families lineage, in that case, you can pick the country of origin that you think best represents you. The ancestor you pick could be anyone; a warrior, a princess, a blacksmith, a farmer, a baker, a king, etc. The ancestor/figure will be the most important part of your drawing but consider drawing a related background/setting, it would really help illustrate who the ancestor was. Please do not copy other artists work and have fun. :) In addition to the usual "Judging Criteria", I'll be looking for: Ancestor Accuracy: The more authentic your ancestor is to the country of origin you picked and the medieval time period, the better you'll fair in the contest. Hint: Consider researching medieval times and your country of origin on the Internet. Description: Please include in your description; what was your ancestor's job/role and his/her country of origin. You're welcome to elaborate even further if you like. Medieval Wikipedia: Need some more background on what "medieval" is? Look here: Medieval You're looking at a time line of about 750-1500 AD, you've got hundreds of years to work with. Here is a time line Contest Week 26 will be open for entries from Sunday, August 20th to Saturday, August 26th, 11:59 PM PST. CLICK HERE FOR WEEK 25 WINNERS JUDGING CRITERIA: Creativity: The amount of imagination, originality and expressiveness that was put into the entry. And i thought i wouldn't have to use history on here.
Are you supposed to guess what they were like? |

Sweetcell (Aug 20, 2006)
Now this sounds good, I'm from Ukranian and Croatian stock so I know where my ancestors come from. Question, can we use a ref, like a photo? I have an old one of my Grandmothers grandmother.

Senshi: In regards to what your ancestors wore and did during the medieval period, you should be able to find that general information online or at the library. As far as what your ancestor looked like facially, body type, skin color, you'll have to use your imagination.
Sweetcell: I'm glad you like the contest. Yes, you may use a photo ref but don't forget to make the person from that photo medieval. Obviously, there were no cameras back then, so merely copying the photo wouldn't work. |
