And I can totally relate to your internal conflict, dude. But truth be told, you should follow the advice of all those around you and get a degree that pertains to some other subject matter that you are passionate about, whilst still keeping art in the foreground with intermittent art classes... What I'm saying is, get your major in something that you KNOW you can build a career on, but continue to study art as both your hobby and an alternate career path :)
I myself am going into the Computer Science department of university, with an eye on medschool... But I'm still going to draw as if my life depended on it XD lol
Keep it up, dude. I seriously am enthused about your art and creativity :D
Do what you think will be best for you and ignore all the other bullshit people feed you; you know yourself best. This is pretty freaking wonderful, on a good note. Creative, soulful.
These new pieces you've been making are totally tripped out, man. Totally rockin'.
I say go with the idealist! Do what you love! Life's too short to slave over something you have no interest in. If you want it bad enough, you will make it happen.
But you have to eventually live in the real world, guys! Without a job, you can't survive... You can make money from commissions, etc. But, the art community is notoriously hard to make your mark in. Plus, most of the greatest artists only gained respect for their art AFTER they died. lol.
You have lots of time to decide what to do with your life Jessie. Hell I didn't know even when I graduated college..( one does not plan to become an insurance agent..gag) lol Go with your heart.. life is long to do something you don't enjoy just for the pay...there is sure to be something you will enjoy and will use your talents..and will also provide a good living..life is so much better when you don't hate what you do.
I think that you should go to art school, or get a degree in something close to its kin. Like...an art degree in advertisement and make logo's and design what goes up on billboards for big companies. You have an awesome style that is very eye catching, I can just imagine seeing this in a magazine or plasterd on the side of a building. I wouldn't mind have pictures of this all over my city. Bets the hell out of those damn girl scout murals. Or, you could be one of those car painters, or a character/background scene maker for cartoons. Or you can design decals on shirts, patterns on pants, purses, back packs. There is alot you can do with an art degree in my opinion, it just takes a while to get rollin'.
Really really big thankyou to everyone who took the time to give advice and opinions. I'm just... thinking it through, you know? I do my best thinking while drawing mindless swirly things late at night XP
You can't possibly know what you want to do with the rest of your life at your age, and I think it's so unreasonable that some people expect you to decide now. Hell, I don't even know what I want to do with the rest of MINE, and I'm almost 42. I think "Idealist" Jessie and "Realist" Jessie should hook up and go out there and kick ass in the art world, making lots of money at it, it IS possible, don't let anyone tell you it isn't.
