the purple background with the purple stars kind of tricks the mind into associating the background with the contour shape of the body, making it look fat at first glance, but if you look again and consciously remind yourself that the purple is background you can see that he isn't fat. If it were mine I'd change the BG color.

I don't know, some earth tone I guess, as long as it's darker than the skin.
