you obviously understand how light and shadow create the illusion of form and you can draw relatively well, you also used the layer option for the background and know how to soften colors where you feel it's needed so there isn't really anything I can tell you except keep drawing. Oh..one other thing...darker darks in the right places (mainly shadow areas) would help add interest and strengthen the composition.
