It's a cool thing. I saw in one of my magazines there's one coming out soon where they'll have a motor that fits in and round the front wheel and you can put it on any bike. I forget..popular science or popular mechanics..one of those. This one is very cool though.

Welp, I let Steve from the shop ride the thing. He almost killed himself, dumped it, dented my gas tank. I swear, everytime I let him play with one of my toys he breaks it. It's not really broken I guess...just dented. He has a 50 cent piece size road rash injury on the side of his forehead now and some on his forearm and hip. Guess were even.

I could use one of those this summer... biking will get tiring at some point.

$400 gets you everything, bike and all. Of course, you do have options that could bring that price up some.

49cc engine kit w/o bike: $200 --\
60cc engine kit w/o bike: $250 -- |------ (not including shipping)
70cc engine kit w/o bike: $300 --/

Average beach cruiser bike $170 (including shipping to myself so I can build the thing. May be able to get one cheaper)

Come to think of it.... at $400 I may not make dime off this deal. We'd have to go over what bike you want and motor size and all that, then come up with an agreed on price. So many options besides the ones I've mentioned.

I think you're right..usually under 50cc with pedals..no license..over or without..license. Probably varies by state.

Actually, I don't know how you could get a license for something bigger than 50cc. (no title, insurance..so on) Which is why mine (70cc) is illegal. I stopped and talked to a cop while I was on mine and asked if I was legal. He said no, but he also said if a cop saw me riding it they most likely wouldn't care. He said the reason they made them illegal around here (even 50cc) was because of kids riding their little pocket bikes and scooters with loud mufflers zig zagging in and out of traffic. But like Daves says, Probably varies by state. I ride the hell out of mine.

Here in Conn..."Moped" is defined as 50cc or less with pedals... they are treated like bicycles. If you're over 50 cc and/or have no pedals (like a Honda Express)..they call it a motorcycle and make you register, insure, and get a motorcycle license. They suck here.

Yup, same deal here. Thing is, if I build something from a bicycle with a 60 or 70cc motor on it, how do I register it? No title. I dunno, I guess I should call motor vehivle and ask but I think I know the answer already. They'll say something about recreational vehicles and riding them only out of city limits and blah blah blah.
