Time to lock and load, boys.

Even in Texas you can wear out your welcome.

oh yeah, excuse me while I didn't take hours to make this pretty or perfect, cause everything ain't pretty
Axil62 (May 1, 2006)
Mexico agressively patrols their southern border with machine guns. At least that's one thing I agree with them on. We should too. :)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 1, 2006)
It's about to get ugly here down on the Rio Grande.
Axil62 (May 1, 2006)
Can I come play?
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 1, 2006)
Oh, please do.
Miss_DJ (May 1, 2006)
hoo ha
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 1, 2006)
Please, get me started. Somebody say something.
edit: what in the HELL does hoo ha mean? If you have an opinion on the subject, speak up.
fleeting_memory (May 1, 2006)
makes me think of Zack's sunglasses
staci (May 1, 2006)
lol. the new captain.
davincipoppalag (May 1, 2006)
The best part of this is the reflected scene in the lenses.
gerbear (May 2, 2006)
Good draw Cindy. I won't comment on the issue. Lived in Texas long enuff to see some merit in all the sides and fallacies in all the sides.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 2, 2006)
There is no merit in entering a country illegally, leaching off it's people through the government and then biting the hand that feeds you.
Nightmare (May 2, 2006)
Mesays they ajust to this country, not the other way around.*

*Cindys cue to rant
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 2, 2006)
adjust my ass, I think they should ride a gun barrel out of here
marcello (May 2, 2006)
ironic how our economy relies on them though, huh?
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 2, 2006)
You think so? We own and operate our own business, and do not have any medical insurance. We write a check for thousands of dollars every year to the IRS (some of which goes to pay for illegal aliens to get free medical care), and I had to pay in CASH over $50,000 to have back surgery. That makes sense, doesn't it? I'll take an expensive vegetable over that any day.
marcello (May 2, 2006)
yes, but it's obviously a lot more complicated than that. and there are plenty of people who wouldn't take the expensive vegetable.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 2, 2006)
Yes, and the unseen economic undercurrent of it (such as I just explained in my personal situation) is unknown to alot of people.
(I grow my own vegetables, so I don't care about that anyway. I won't, however, take up raising chickens because I don't seem to be too good at keeping birds alive. lol)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
Oops, I'm not racist. My husband's business happens to employ several legal immigrants. He pays them very well, exactly the same as he does the NON-immigrants who work for him. These people are here legally, they are following the rules, they work hard, they pay their taxes (I know, I do their 1099's, as they are employed as sub-contractors) and they aren't screaming in the streets. If you follow the rules, (although the rules need to change, sorry, but they do) work hard and pull your weight I don't have a problem with you. I do believe that the United States taking everyone in and trying to shoulder them has to stop, our shoulders aren't that big. This has nothing to do with "racism". (on my part) As Marcello said, it's a bit more complicated than that.
Zack (May 3, 2006)
what are you lecturing me for? I thought the link was relevant to the discussion. I wasn't accusing anyone of anything. jeez.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
It was relevant, and so was what I had to say. I did not intend for it to sound like a lecture.
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
Yeah, it's not like he agrees with what he posted, he just posted it, that's all. jeez.
marcello (May 3, 2006)
the problem is throwing them out or trying to stop them from coming is not going to work, there is a bigger problem that needs to be solved to prevent this "symptom" from happening. if you take pain killers, that doesn't make whatever is hurting better.
Zack (May 3, 2006)
Your mockery has been pretty subpar lately, Axil. Even a third-grader can pull off the old copycat routine. Now, second-graders I'm not so sure about, but definitely third-graders.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
If you're going to correlate this to disease symptoms, if you have a viral epidemic, the best thing to do is to develop a vaccine to stop it from invading the host in the first place. That would be called prevention. You can't cure a virus, you just have to let it burn itself out and then prevent it from coming back.
(comparing someone to a third grader is pretty childish if you ask me)
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree on that Zack. I made a good point. The only part of what I said that could be considered "copycat" was the word "jeez" and that was done specificly to ensure that you were clear on what that point was, ties it in so there is no misunderstanding, and judging by your reaction, it worked as designed.
Zack (edited May 3, 2006)
Ah, right, I forgot that Axil was the only one allowed to mock people around here. My mistake, ma'am.

A good point? I never said I agreed with the link I posted. In fact, I don't. He makes no explanation as to how Walmart and other companies could actually be forced to pay illegal immigrants full wages, and the very idea of legislating standards for what is already illegal behavior is a bit absurd. The only thing I really take from it is his mockery of the common complaint of illegal immigrants stealing jobs. I found it amusing.

You're probably right about it not being copycat though. Probably just a coincidence that you posted a solitary link nearly two hours after I did.
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
Don't forget it.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
No problemo. lol
(Like I said, lock and load, boys... I got'cher cure right here)
marcello (May 3, 2006)
A virus is a bad comparison though, viruses are not living, after all, and immigrants are. People don't act merely according to nature as viruses (and flowing water, for that matter), so it isn't as simple as prevention (or building a dam). There is a reason people try to illegally imigrate to the USA, and the problem is caused by both sides. If we never hired illegal immigrants in the first place, they'd have little interest in trying to get here illegally. Obviously their goals are worthwhile enough that they'll risk a lot of money and their lives to get here. Lots of people/companies have much to gain by using illegal immigrants so they continue to hire them.
Throwing them back and tightening the border is not going to work. You need to cut off their desire to come here illegally. And there are two ways to do that. You either crack down on companies that are hiring them in the first place, crack down on the Americans that are attracting the immigrants in the first place, or you make it easier/more streamlined/possible for people to enter legally. The answer is probably in some combination of the two.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
A pain is not a living thing, either, (your analogy) but illegal immigrants are a pain, so I'll give you that one. I disagree that tightening the border won't work. Dead Mexicans don't cause problems of any kind. Yeehaw.
(I think watching the ones that don't make it across the Rio Grande would be the best deterrent for the ones that think about following)
Zack (edited May 3, 2006)
[foolish holocaust comment retracted] Stupid dead people, not causing anything. Who needs complicated solutions that are sensitive to the effects they have on all parties when you can just go with prejudice?
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
That has absolutely nothing to do with this.
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
Talk about subpar mockery.
Zack (edited May 3, 2006)
Alright, it was too emotionally charged and unrelated an example, I'll give you that. Consider that statement retracted. But c'mon, where's your respect for human life? And to think that people blame video games for a jaded populace.

Copycat again? Some people never learn!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
This isn't an emotional issue, and no one is going to turn me into a bleeding heart.
Axil62 (edited May 3, 2006)
Stickin with the copycat thing are ya? *sigh* Ok, listen up bub, that wasn't copycat, that was a comment referencing your innacurate accusation concerning what you described as my subpar mockery. Following along so far? It also employs a tinge of humor commonly reffered to as a callback.
Zack (May 3, 2006)
Bleeding heart? For God's sake, you're talking about killing people.
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
Don't touch he electric fence, it's lethal.
No, I'm gonna touch it anyway.
Ok, go ahead dumbass.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
Yes, I am. It's necessary occasionally in defending a country and protecting it's borders.
Zack (May 3, 2006)
And you approach the killing with an utter enthusiasm.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
*rebel yell*
Axil62 (edited May 3, 2006)
And you approach the killing with an utter enthusiasm.

Yeah, and? (by the way "an" doesn't belong in that sentence.)
Zack (May 3, 2006)
http://www.answers.com/enthusiasm
... one can have an enthusiasm for almost anything...
The American Heritage Dictionary says otherwise. Getting a little petty there?
Axil62 (edited May 3, 2006)
Ok, now put "utter" in there. (it's an adjective)
gerbear (May 3, 2006)
Just got back here. Cindy i agree with what u have said. In theory i agree completely! My hubby and I work our asses off, pay a fortune in school taxes (to educate their kids who the parents refuse to teach English to), pay another fortune for medical insurance which is a crappy policy anyhow, etc etc.

but the reality is...this country runs on slave labor. Always has. Some businesses can use just legals but some make a LOT bigger profit off of the illegals. They are using them as slaves and that is, sadly, a time honored tradition here in the States. Don't get me wrong, i am a raving patriot, love this country deeply, but we ain't perfect. I would like to see all the illegals deported and the borders defended, but it won't happen. it is all about money, that is all it EVER is about if ya dig deep enuff.

About the hand biting tho, that does make my blood boil. Also, has anyone else noticed that almost ALL the packaging in grocercy store products is written in English and Spanish now? I have been watching it creep in for years, now almost all have dual labeling. So we say we want them to learn english and then, with Spanish Radio and TV and now products and even signs everywhere in Spanish, why should they learn English? No need to. I don't have a problem with having a dual language country, we are one of the few who are not, but geeeeeeeez...get it out of the closet, own up to what is going on.
Zack (May 3, 2006)
I don't follow. What grammar rule do you believe me to be breaking?
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
Would this be correct? "It's an very pretty flower."
Or this "It's a very pretty flower" ?
Zack (May 3, 2006)
I don't know what alphabet you use, but in mine 'u' is a vowel. And we use 'an' to precede words that start with vowels in English.
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
Yes, I'm aware of that but an's function is to precede an indefinite article, not an adjective, because as I'm sure you're aware, an adjective is not a noun (person place or thing...or "indefinite article")
Kloxboy (May 3, 2006)
Ya'll is mo' messed than a four-fignered dentist. Dang son, DANG!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
Along those lines, my mother (kindergarten teacher for decades) was an ESL teacher upon retiring (English as a second language). The younger generation is learning to speak English. That still really has nothing to do with this as far as I'm concerned.

(I wonder how many people know how much of our tax money is going to pay teachers to teach English to the children of illegal immigrants, as well)

Shoot now and talk later.
Zack (May 3, 2006)
Hey, genius. 'An' IS an indefinite article. You want it to precede itself? The hole you're digging is only getting deeper.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
It's "hole", not "whole".
Kloxboy (May 3, 2006)
Zack...you totally hid your edit...lame!
Axil62 (edited May 3, 2006)
an precedes an indefinite article, it's not the article itself.

(wish I could hide my edits so people would think I'm better than I am)

nobody (May 3, 2006)
Cloxboy, you totally spelled 'fingered' wrong...lame! ;)
Kloxboy (May 3, 2006)
I meant to do that....so someone like you would come by and point it out! My plan worked! HAHAHA!
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
It's true, he memod me before he did it and said 'hey watch this".
Zack (edited May 3, 2006)
I hide edits that don't change the meaning of my posts. I thought I got to it quickly enough without anyone seeing the original, in which case, it would have been no harm done UNLESS someone was specifically out to scrutinize every post I made for errors.

I didn't sink to pointing out Axil's 'specificly' or 'innacurate,' or the fact that he edited his 'follwing,' did I? Give me a break.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
Busted! I saw it. :)
Kloxboy (May 3, 2006)
You're just a nobody. PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nobody (May 3, 2006)
INDEFINITE ARTICLE

A / AN

Use 'a' with nouns starting with a consonant (letters that are not vowels),
'an' with nouns starting with a vowel (a,e,i,o,u)

Examples:

A boy
An apple
A car
An orange
A house
An opera

'An' is an indefinite article.
Kloxboy (May 3, 2006)
You're just a nobody. PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nobody (May 3, 2006)
i AM just a nobody. thanks you :)
Groje (May 3, 2006)
For REAL, you people need to get a life.
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
So "with an utter enthusiasm" is correct?
nobody (edited May 3, 2006)
Yes.

From Purdue University... http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/esl/eslart.html

1. Indefinite Articles: a and an

A and an signal that the noun modified is indefinite, referring to any member of a group. These indefinite articles are used with singular nouns when the noun is general; the corresponding indefinite quantity word some is used for plural general nouns. The rule is:

* a + singular noun beginning with a consonant: a boy
* an + singular noun beginning with a vowel: an elephant
* a + singular noun beginning with a consonant sound: a user (sounds like 'yoo-zer,' i.e. begins with a consonant 'y' sound, so 'a' is used)
* some + plural noun: some girls

If the noun is modified by an adjective, the choice between a and an depends on the initial sound of the adjective that immedately follows the article:

* a broken egg
* an unusual problem
* a European country (sounds like 'yer-o-pi-an,' i.e. begins with consonant 'y' sound)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
As far as using it in front of an adjective, I don't know. Using it preceding a word beginning with a vowel is correct. My mother was an English teacher in Texas, I could call and ask her to give it to us in English AND in Spanish. hah
(thanks nobody :)
nobody (May 3, 2006)
HAHA. I actually didn't realize that was an ESL link from Perdue. Irony? Mhm.
Zack (May 3, 2006)
Maybe Axil pronounces it 'yutter.'
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
1 -- used as a function word before singular nouns when the referent is unspecified. Utter is not a noun.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
Yes ma'am. It's what my mother would have given me, anyway, only now I don't have to call her! :D
nobody (edited May 3, 2006)
If the noun is modified by an adjective, the choice between a and an depends on the initial sound of the adjective that immedately follows the article.

You didn't read the second part.

Edit: I just looked it up to double check. 'Utter' is indeed an adjective and 'enthusiasm' is indeed a noun. So Zack is correct because 'an' is followed by an adjective preceeding a noun.
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
oh, I see ... so you're saying that "utter enthusiasm" is a singular article? Cool, I'll go pick one up at Wal-Mart.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
Make sure you choose the check-out line with the illegal immigrant working in it.
Zack (May 3, 2006)
So now you're saying we can't use adjectives in between an indefinite article and the noun it modifies, yet that's exactly what you did. Remember?
It's a very pretty flower
Hell, you even had an adverb in there.
davincipoppalag (May 3, 2006)
Aren't utters those cool weasel like animals that swim in rivers and stuff?
Kloxboy (May 3, 2006)
DBA: Is that a deep tan or is your neck always that red?
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
A little of both. :)
nobody (May 3, 2006)
It's an awkward usage Axil, but it's grammatically correct.
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
enthusiasm isn't a noun.
nobody (May 3, 2006)
Yes, it is. Look it up. I did.
Zack (May 3, 2006)
lmfao
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
Can we please go back to playing Cowboys and Mexicans? dang.

"May" we please... I'll just correct myself, there.
Axil62 (edited May 3, 2006)
Damn. Ok, you win. :)

You like that Zack? Feels pretty good eh?
nobody (May 3, 2006)
Thank you. Do I at least get a flower or cookie or something? After all, I JUST finished my finals and I was technically done wth any brain activity for the summer.
Kloxboy (edited May 3, 2006)
Rabble, rabble, rabble. RABBLE!

Edit: RABBLE!
Axil62 (edited May 3, 2006)
Hell no, you helped Zack out, not me. Shouldn't he be the one you're asking?
Zack (edited May 3, 2006)
Sure, I don't mind. Doesn't cost much to pay off reward nobody.
nobody (edited May 3, 2006)
I wasn't helping anyone. Just continuing my quest for knowledge. Or...something.

Hey now.
Axil62 (May 3, 2006)
Can we please go back to playing Cowboys and Mexicans? dang.

We were, can't you tell? I just got slaughtered.
nobody (May 3, 2006)
Much better.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
It's an awkward usage

Naw, you just took my bullet for me. I thought it looked terribly strange myself, but I didn't say anything because I honestly didn't know the answer.

Nobody wins!
marcello (May 3, 2006)
holy wtf.

ps. the killing of mexicans trying to cross is definite not a good enough deterrent. after all, people already die trying to get in, but they still try. (ref)
Knockoff (May 3, 2006)
Hahah, that was funny.......
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
So there's no need to up the patrol in the desolate unguarded areas, that seems to be taking care of itself
marcello (May 3, 2006)
the border patrol doesn't shoot anyone. =P
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited May 3, 2006)
they need to start (sorry, I edited that previous comment before you replied, and I am obviously just being a smart-ass here)
edit: or a dumb-ass, however you want to interpret it. I love a good debate, and this one was fun.

Honestly, if there is an amicable, peaceful way to solve a problem, I am all for that. Of course I don't want anyone to die needlessly. I still believe that there is a time and a place for war, if it is absolutely necessary. (This isn't that) I have a Mexican cousin, and I guarantee when he sees this he is going to laugh until he busts a rib.
davincipoppalag (May 3, 2006)
I still like the reflection in those lenses
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
I am so wishing I had spent more time making this a decent picture. lol
davincipoppalag (May 3, 2006)
it IS a decent picture. Crikey , don't be silly
marcello (May 3, 2006)
naw, she could do a lot better, we all know that. however, it's quite fine for 40 minutes.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 3, 2006)
*fainting*. That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me. :)
