This is for Davincipoppa who's been sweet to comment on many of my pics (even the cruddy ones) and well, just because. Hope you like Dave.

I put this in advanced for the space. The mods can put it down to Intermediate if they have a mind.

And oi... so much fricken rigging......

Here's the ref of the ship. Scroll down and you'll see a thumbnail and click to enlarge. It's pretty close. Thanks for the tip Poppa. XD.

Like it? I Farking LOVE IT! THanks!!! This is great...I wish I could do them as well as you did!
Sweetcell (edited Apr 10, 2006)
Are you kidding? I was having trouble just with the shadows. Trust me if this was a ship in full daylight no way would I attempt it. LOL

I respect your amazing ships Dave. I understand what goes into making them. So glad you like it. XD.

EDIT: Why do they need so much rigging? And how can they possibly remember what they're all for?
davincipoppalag (Apr 10, 2006)
There's standing rigging, which is what holds up the masts, and gives them the strength to take the strain, and the running rigging , which operates the spars, and sails. There are halyards, which raise the sails and lower them, and sheets, which control the angles , and the shapes. There is a line for everything. The blocks and tackles are to give mechanical advantage and allow the lines to be manipulated under the stress of wind. At their peak, they were amazing machines. They are beautiful.
Sweetcell (Apr 10, 2006)
Trust you to know. A sailor huh? Well that explains it even more. Me, I just drew what I saw, never could sail (unless my life depended on it.)
davincipoppalag (Apr 10, 2006)
I had a boat or two. I've been fascinated by tall ships since I was a kid (back in the jurrasic period). I've made many models of them over the years. My latest are little ones about 3 inches long that I carve and then rig. Ill send ya a pic of one..(if I can remember where I posted the darn thing.)

Opium (Apr 11, 2006)
good golly ms molly! Fantastic work sweetcell! So realistic! I love how you can barely see some of the ropes because of the sun!
comd (Apr 11, 2006)
Awesome - I love looking at all the details with the little people standing at the stern and the rigging and everything. The water looks great as well.
Gemmy619 (Apr 11, 2006)
My god the detail in this is amazing, i especially love the sun and how its shining on the top flag thing, perfect :)
DoOp (Apr 11, 2006)
homg! wonderful art! *that i can't seem to do at all, haha i wonder why, ahaha sarcasm* the ship pwns all, allllll ALLLLLLL
Sweetcell (Apr 11, 2006)
Thank you all. Silly me I go into these things with the thinking that it'll be so easy, just a whole bunch of sillouettes, course it doesn't help that there are so many ropes, and all those things I drew of which I had no idea what they were. Specially the stuff on the right. I never pick anything easy. I should call myself a detail pimp. LOL.

So glad you like it Poppa, and please do, I'd love to see the pic. And thank you all. The timers about right. When I start to draw I lose touch of time and get engulfed in a piece..... so I never know how long times really passed. Mucho's everybody.

And I have to know DoOp, showing my internet chat ignorance, what does pwns mean? Is that owns?
DoOp (Apr 11, 2006)
yes pwn= own= awesome ^_^ gamers language xD....
Sweetcell (Apr 11, 2006)
Ahhh, I thought so, but why a P, wouldn't it be simpler to just go with the O?

Oi, I sound ignerant. LOL

Beautiful painting, the details are so carefully and meticulously done. It has a bit of a brooding mood to it, wonder if a storm is brewing.....
HunterKiller_ (Apr 11, 2006)
Ditto with above. =]
Sweetcell (Apr 11, 2006)
Thank you, I tried to do the sunset in the picture but damn me if I could get the clouds right, but it does set a different mood. I'm hoping to get as good as you DBA... think I'm getting there. So appreciate it Hunter., amagic2u.
